It may be a combination of the constant hot weather and a cultural thing. I do know that heat can cause people to be easily irritated. Love the video, nothing like a good ole hockey fight to solve a problem.

I've turned into the type of chic that if a cab driver is rude, or 7/11 or where ever really - when I get that I think a couple of things, first why am I in this situation - law of attraction states we attract this things to us and have to look at 'Why'? Is it Karma? My problem was I wasn't 'Aware' of things I was doing and how it was affecting people, still actually not 100% there but thats ok - we keep trecking on and learning in life. Another thing is rather than feed of that energy and get stressed out try and ask 'Are you alright? Having a bad day?' and ask with a smile. That might make the other person realise how rude they have been or even make them smile that a stranger care enough to ask. Its simple really there can be one million reasons for rudeness. Unfortunate for us we notice more negative actions than positive actions. Don't pay attention and if it does affect you try and turn it around in a neutral or positive manner. When people bump into me at the MTR I just say out loud 'Excuse me that really hurt my leg OUCH' and most of the time they turn around and appologize. Or I say 'Hey no need to push me, you can say excuse me and I'll move' . . . Another time I was carrying dinner home, some of which was with piping hot soup big big bowl and if some one bumped me it was cause more than horrible burns. It was rush hour, and being me I turned around to a stuffy crowd of about 30 persons where the MTR doors were about to open and said, "I'm sorry everyone, but I want to ask you to KINDLY not push or shove on this MTR entrance, I hope its not a lot to ask but I am only a little girl with a big bowl of hot piping soup, if this spills I could get burned really badly as well as some other people on the MTR. Please be cautious and kind" then two lovely young Japanese men out of no where formmed a circle with other locals around me and said "we'll make sure it doesn't happen, what stop you get off we'll be there!" I turned around a situation before it happend. I knew that if I didnt say anything that the UNAWARE Hong Kong person would push and shove and the accident would be critical! I always tell people if it really bothers them how Hong Kong people act then take a step forward and do something about it. At the end of the day, we dont know if their dog died or family member in hospital. If their husband or wife lost their jobs and are stressed about meeting ends . . . We just dont know and I try not to assume too much but rather help the energy around me be more neutral. . . . Hope that wasn't waaaayyyyy too long! :)) x

I think it's the pressure, the pace, and, quite seriously, the total absence of violence or social/public discord (no one wants to start a scene) in the society. In an American city, being rude will get called on, and shoving people on the train will lead to some sort of violence. Hence, we know better than to do that stupid stuff. I think people are rude and obnoxious because they think they can get away with it, and they usually do. If you call people on it (like cutting the queue), they are embarrassed and stop. So they know they're wrong. It's just that people usually won't say anything or kick their @ss. Sometimes, when I've run out of patience, I just 'walk people out of my way' on the train; they're supposed to let passengers exit first, and since I weigh 3x what they do, I can walk off the train right through them. They have no grounds to be upset; I am simply mirroring their behavior. And if they are upset? F@#$ 'em.

I agree with Sean... Let them know... you have every right to voice your opinion verbally or physically but not violently... Don't let shitheads try to walk over you... That's what 'that' song last night should be about man!!! This is inspiring me to say something to this dude who has been talking a lot of shit about a lot of musicians... this guy needs a wake up call...

it is the pressure and the financial crisis. and the way i deal with rude people probably made it worse: i yell back at them, new yorker style. damn that pressure..

I so agree with Sean and Don, ppl get grumpy because they think by being grumpy, they get what they want, and they know ppl won't say a thing about it. in many cases, taxi drivers get grumpy, cos the passengers get grumpy, the sales at 7-11 get grumpy cos the customers get grumpy. it's physics, newtons law, they push u, u move, and if u keep moving, they keep pushing, but if u stand still, they can't push u anymore. etc.etc.etc.

Kongers don't have much consideration for strangers that's why, stereotypically speaking Kongers are the ones who don't have a problem showing the fact that they just want what's good for themselves. Me as a responder, depends on what mood I'm in, sometimes I react by extra nice just to make them feel bad..sometimes when i'm in a pissy mood i just say it in their faces... just to.. get this horrible cycle going? haha good luck ! :p u gunna be at the halloween bash?

Personally I think it is the HUMIDITY!. No one has mentioned that yet. But comared to other cities I found HK really helpful but of course I probably looked so lost at times they took pity on me. Jun, I have been feeling that way about here, LA since I got back from HK. Maybe I am looking for it. Or Maybe it is TRUE! Anyway I miss you all and HK. Ask jason t. about how I handled the bad cabby the last day!!! My NY came out but the nice cabby had my favorite flowers in his cab so I felt better about my choice!!! talk soon Jeanne

i think it is partly just people being really uptight with work and the economy. not just now but in general everyday settings. hong kong society is very much a work/results driven society and when things don't go down well (which is quite often), people get stressed and grumpy.
