Renovations

Still putting the finishing touches on the new place. The last touch being that of sponges and cloths soaked in soapy water.

The kitchen – Clean at last, clean at last…

Organized even.

Which cannot yet be said of the bedroom.

Actually, this is an old photo.

Thanks to my organizing and my housekeeper’s cleaning, it now looks much more like this:

****

My bathroom.

Last Thursday night I tried to open the window.

It opened, and kept going.

*6 floors down, a large bang and the sound of breaking glass.*

Luckily, it is the interior of the building where no one walks or is otherwise in danger.

So I’m glad the typhoon missed us.

I’ll be even more glad when the repairman puts in the new frosted window and I can stop showering in the dark.

I doubt anyone can see me, but I am perhaps a little paranoid.

I am also sure that if anyone could see me showering, theywouldn’t want to.

Let me also say that the only thing sadder than showering alone (which is not necessarily sad) is showering alone in the dark.

I think you see my point.

But the nature of this space is such that showering with a friend is simply out of the question.

Because it’s my space.

I didn’t put up photos of the workshop because it’s a bit messy.

But its a workshop, so its supposed to be.

Last night I ‘liberated’ a palette from the loading dock.

It’s more than 16 square feet of 5/8 MDF.

I have been looking for this stuff since I came to Hong Kong.

I t’s really good for making templates.

You’ll see.

But back to the OFFICE SPACE (not home/residence/place of domicile) -

Grace Huangrecently saw these photos -

…and asked/proclaimed ”Yay! Do I see all your DVDs unpacked???”

*She may not have realized that these 17boxes -*

are all DVDs.

Now, the Mahjong Room looks like this:

These are the non-HK DVDs. For reference, that’s a 42″ TV.

And Dave Chapelle.

The f oyer looks like this:

These are the HK DVDs. They need to be alphabetized.

That box on the floor? More DVDs.

So even now, I can say no Grace, not all the DVDs are unpacked.

I've heard great things about your toilet and legs sticking out. Pics please! I remember collecting so many dvd's like that, I stopped after about 600 of them and not knowing where to store them anymore, I've resorted to storing on HDDs and thowing out the cases....

But where are the books? You were an academic for so many years there must be books, or have you made a clean break and gotten rid of all of the books, just keeping the DVDs? My weakness is books and CDs, though I stopped buying CDs (except for collectible HK stuff that I have to order from overseas) when I got to 1,000 a few years back. The DVD collection keeps growing because I know that HK films are available for about 10 minutes on DVD and then are out of print. You should design and install a closet organizing system for your clothing. We turned our spare bedroom into a dressing room. Mark designed the space so that 3 walls of the room have dressers, shelving and clothing racks and even a shoe cabinet. Everything is hung on a metal frame bolted to the wall so it is easy to take it down when we move, in case the next owner doesn't want a dressing room. If you want to see what we've done for ideas, just let me know and I'll post some pics on FB.
