On a hot Saturday night in Hong Kong’s popular live music venue The Cavern; Rustic impressed the panel of 12 judges with their pure entertainment style that won them the title of best band in China 2009. Judges included respected music industry figures such as Christine Samson (vocal coach to Joey Yung 容祖儿, G.E.M. 鄧紫棋, Fong Lik Sun 方力申), Davy Chan (Aroom studios, LMF), Silvester See (Ace Hero Films, veteran rocker) and Soler. Each band played 8 minutes consisting of two original songs.

Rustic delighted the audience after the results were announced by jumping on stage and lead vocalist Li Fan grabbed the microphone to declare, “I was born on a farm.  I moved to Beijing and chose rock n roll because I don’t want to be a farm boy all my life.”

Chris B, China National Director said “After months of heats & city finals, tonight’s China final was really very exciting for fans of live music and for China.  The bands were all top notch quality and their styles of music ranged from ethnic minority tunes to rock and roll.  The five cities that took part were Beijing, Hong Kong, Macau, Shenzhen and Shanghai.”

Dragonair is the official carrier for Global Battle of the Bands in China and HKGFM.net is the official online radio sponsor.  “There was so much food and the stewardesses are so pretty” said Ricky, guitarist for Rustic, talking excitedly about their first time on an aeroplane, flying to Hong Kong for the China Final.

This is the second year that Global Battle of the Bands is taking place in China.   Beijing has a reputation for a thriving live music scene and with a Beijing winning band representing China at the World Final, the whole world will see what the best of China 2009 has on offer.   

The World Final; which will be held in London, England at La Scala on January 31st 2010, Rustic will compete against 23 other countries for the top prize of US$100,000 in band development (which includes cash US$10,000 along with touring and recording opportunities that match the genre of the winning band)

港龙航空（Dragonair (KA)）将赞助该项全球现场音乐赛事，为上海和北京赛区的优胜乐队提供前往中国区决赛（将于香港举行）赛场的机票。港龙航空的首席执行官Kenny Tang说："这场现场音乐表演将为全世界呈现无限精彩，我们很高兴能参与其中。"

 今年全球乐队争霸赛（Global Battle of the Bands，GBOB）中国区的比赛将在北京、香港、澳门、上海和深圳等5个城市举行。每个城市将根据评委和观众投票，选出一支优胜乐队。评委团队由著名音乐家、知名音乐记者、编辑和唱片业人士组成。到目前为止，确认出席的评委专家有：鼓手兼制作人恭硕良、Soler乐队、Acehero Films的资深音乐人Silvester See Wai Yin、华纳唱片香港公司的Vincent Lee和Christine Samson（歌手，容祖儿、邓紫棋和方力申等香港一线艺人的声乐指导）。各赛区都将采用顶级的音乐场馆，包括北京的愚公移山、上海的育音堂、香港的The Cavern酒吧、深圳的Jin Bar和澳门的XL Creations等。

 5个城市的优胜乐队将于2009年11月在香港一决胜负，胜出者将代表中国区参加英国伦敦的全球乐队争霸赛决赛，决赛冠军将获得价值10万美元的乐队发展大奖（包括使用配有制作人的顶级伦敦录音工作室一周、为期10天的英国之旅，以及1万美元现金）。中国区的比赛将于8月开始，届时将有200多支乐队参加，其中只有一支乐队能够代表中国出现在2009年12月的英国伦敦。

 GBOB中国区的总监Chris B说："大家都希望看到中国出现下一个伟大的乐队，希望它是一个未经雕琢、真正专注于音乐的乐队。这项比赛将会使一些有潜力的乐队展现在世人面前。"

 GBOB国际成立于2004年，中国分部于2008年成立。2009年将有36个国家参赛，总决赛将于2009年12月13日在英国伦敦的斯卡拉剧院（La Scala）举行。

 去年有28个国家参赛。2008年GBOB 全球总决赛的评委有性手枪乐队（Sex Pistols）的贝斯手兼歌曲作者Glen Matlock，Stereophonics、Charlatans等的制作人Jim Lowe和前A1乐队成员、现任制作人Ben Adams，他们都认为中国将是2009年决赛众所瞩目的焦点。全球乐队争霸赛的组织者Matt Walker说："很明显，Killer Soap乐队的出现让全世界注意到，中国乐队已蓄势待发，将在摇滚音乐的世界舞台上一展风采。乐队的热情、音响和出色的演唱都引起了评委们的关注。"

来自香港的Killer Soap是2008年代表中国参加GBOB总决赛的乐队。Killer Soap的吉他手Kevin说："Killer Soap参加2008年GBOB总决赛之后，无论是音乐上和文化上，都为我们翻开了一个崭新的篇章。能够与来自世界各地的乐队分享音乐，实在令人激动，虽然我们的语言、肤色、文化背景和音乐风格存在差异，但我们能够共聚伦敦，分享和欣赏音乐。音乐成为我们彼此交流的共同语言。"

由于奥运会的限制， 2008年的GBOB中国区比赛没有在北京进行，所以北京的乐队都为北京今年能够成为赛区之一感到高兴。仅北京地区就有2000多支乐队。

We’re all so excited to announce that the Global Battle of the Bands has launched in Hong Kong!!  There are four heats in Hong Kong culminating in a Hong Kong Final on 23 October.   We got a bunch of prizes for the winning Hong Kong band and then they get to battle it out on 7 November against the winning bands from other China cities (Beijing, Shanghai, Shenzhen and Macau) right here in Hong Kong! 

I’m sure fans of live music will be really excited that there is a democratic system of voting at each of the heats!!

GBOB Challenge is the world’s biggest and live music competition open to bands of ALL GENRES.   This is a real competition for un-manufactured talent.  There are over 30 countries taking part in 2009!

Competition Rules:

Each band plays 2 original songs for a total maximum of 8 minutes.
ORIGINAL songs with NO pre-recorded music are the only two rules!
Bands can be signed or unsigned.
