  • 10 years and still here breathing Hong Kong...it's in our hearts and pumps through our veins. We are a Hong Kong band and proud to be from this city. Then why do we always talk about problems here? Because we want our beautiful home to be the best it can be...nothing wrong with that.

  • Knowledge interview with Riz King Ly Chee

    Tuesday, Jul 28, 2009 11:13AM / Standard Entry

What up ladies, gents, children, celebrities, nobodies, socially awesome, socially retarded, what-have-yous...

This is your favorite Hong Kong-raised Pakistani back to torment you on how you should give up on all your mainstream-celebrity dreams and begin to feel the beauty and power of a screamy little HK band called King Ly Chee. That's right - we're here still kicking 10 years down the road...

Anyway - today's MAIN installment is more of a HUGE thank you to our friends at HK's most amazing clothing label Knowledge (I got two pairs of their new shorts last week and I swear to god that I've even been sleeping in them - they're that fucking good). When you thank Knowledge of course you also have to thank 8five2 Skateshop as well as 24 Herbs...I think all 3 of these things go hand-in-hand as do the names "Annie" and "Brian, JBS, Siswojo King Muchacho, etc"...Check out their website: http://www.8five2.com/

(The shorts I'm talking about are:

    and

Why are we thanking them? Because they have really shown what "support" is all about. It's nice to get the support of people like these guys to help promote my band to those pockets of people who otherwise would never knew we existed, or have built up their own pre-conceived notions about me or King Ly Chee. We actually are very nice guys...REALLY! Hehehe...

Annie sent me a set of "5 Questions" last week which quickly turned out to me delivering back 5 essays to each question...hehehehehehehe...yes, I'm outspoken and have way too much to say. Whether or not anyone else cares to read these things is another story. As Annie pointed out to me - the world of Twitter exploded because people are just too lazy to read now. All they want is their 150 characters of crap like "I took a shit today" from their favorite celebrity and that's it. Anything more and it's more like a turn off...

Oh well - guess to those who will click on to this interview and notice that there are definitely more than 150 characters present, I will continue to be a turn off. :-) Hehehehehehe...

    Good times good times...

Yo Annie and Brian: THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR YOUR SUPPORT!!! You have no idea how much it means...

PS: For those people living in Hong Kong - King Ly Chee is playing (and have organized) probably one of the biggest hardcore shows you are going to see in Hong Kong for a very LONG time. The info is below - it features one of the world's largest current hardcore bands Terror (from LA, USA):

  • Woah! Has it been since May since we last updated this thing!??!?

    Tuesday, Sep 16, 2008 9:09PM / Standard Entry

    Yo what's up everyone!

Since we're one of the few heavy bands on this thing - I'd thought I'd come by and give you guys (at least those that are actually into less commercial tunes) an update on your favorite Chinese hardcore band...King Ly Chee :-)

Summer has been a blast...we played in Laguna, Philippines which was SICK as hell. Great scene out there and the kids ate us up! It was amazing...for the time being we couldn't imagine ever playing in HK again - especially if an HK show has to follow up a show like in the Philippines! Any of you into rock should definitely head out there ASAP to check out the music, musicians, bands, and overall healthy environment for GOOD music. You won't hear any of that local Canto-pop garbage out there! Even when you're in a taxi driving around Manila the radio stations all blast great rock music, and if it is pop-rock they are ALL at Soler's calibre (Soler should easily be EVERY local HK pop musician's standard. If they can't sound or perform as good as them, they should not even be allowed to record an album or be handed a contract). Imagine that? Every pop-rock band in the Philippines is at least as good as Soler.

Now that we're back in HK, we're preparing for a December tour of China. We're going up for 10 days playing about 8 shows. The tour starts in Wuhan on Dec 20 and will end Dec 27...it's going to be a great time! We'll be playing with Chinese legendary punk, hardcore and metal bands...it's going to be a cold time, but unlike HK, at least there's a HUGE community of people that are into this type of music. In HK, being "lonely" doesn't even begin to describe the distance we feel from any sort of local music-related happenings. So to be able to go to places like China, Philippines, Malaysia, etc., and be surrounded by magazines, reporters, radio, and an audience who ALL listen to this type of music - it's just amazing and we're insanely grateful.

Okay - hopefully it won't be another 5 months before I update this thing...actually, true KLC fans already know that I update www.kinglychee.com daily so you should already know about everything that I've typed here...

    Adios...

  • China's earthquake / Burma's flooding...

    Wednesday, May 14, 2008 6:38AM / Standard Entry

I hope everyone can take some time out these next few days to think about all the people who are suffering in these two countries...not some people either - but hundreds of thousands of people. they say that in China 100,000 are unaccounted for, they say that an entire school fell down on TOP of children that were inside (some 900 of them). 36 hours later and those children are still not out of the building. there are tons of horror stories coming out of china. i have friends and supporters of king ly chee who have emailed me and MSN'ed me from the area who have told me that they're too scared to go back to their homes and had to sleep out on the streets. they said it's fucking freezing outside...death toll is 12,000 but will definitely go up...

While you're thinking about China, please don't forget about Burma where over 20,000 people have died. It's been almost 2 weeks since that tragedy and food, water and supplies has still not gotten up to over 1.2 million people!!! They say that Burma's own rulers are taking too long to get the supplies to their people...there are still areas who have NOT been visited by the army and so they're on their second week without food and water...

Please take some time to read about your world...there's all sorts of ways that you can hear about these disasters...

  • Riz on NOFX Backstage Pass (airs on FUSE TV in the West)

    Sunday, May 11, 2008 11:49PM / Standard Entry

    Yo,

Check it out...I didn't even realize I was on this thing! NOFX filmed all their tours last year and KLC played on the Asian leg of the tour. They didn't mention King Ly Chee ever though :-( Oh well...we're just a small band I guess. It was nice that they put me in there though and were very kind about me!

Check it out at this link:

    Video: http://youtube.com/watch?v=bzTyeBif1eY

Definitely brings back some awesome memories of those 2 weeks we spent with NOFX! :-)

    Peace,
    Riz
