So… the 3 month journey of making Jay’s album has come to a close, from 16 hour days to relaxin with the family again. The album is something very different for teh HK market, we will see how it is received, so far so good though. The first single 今天開始 (Starting Today) was number 2 in the charts and they have just released the 2nd single 夜半敲門 (Knocking On My Door) has already got some great feedback. The album is the first full album the MoFo Music has produced, MoFo is me and Jun as a writing/production team and we are already getting booked up for more albums next year. The sound we make together is very unique for the region but still very commercially orientated.
Below are some links and pictures from the project, the album is scheduled to be released at the end of November so we will see how it goes, in the meantime, one of the songs we did on Jun;s album (Help Is On The Way) is up for 2 awards (Best Arrangement & Best Male Performance) at the CASH 2012 Golden Sail Awards on November 28th, finers crossed!!Video: http://youtu.be/Fl9bc1yZmpw

The chorus from Jay’s first plug doing their poo faces!
At last!!! Jun’s album came out yesterday (June 5th), I worked with Jun on this album in between both of our busy schedules. The album is called “Playback’s A Bitch” and had 8 tracks of which I produced 7, co-wrote 7, and mixed 8.
The whole experience was great and Jun is a very talented multi-instrumentalist. He played 90% of the instruments on the album, Drums, bass, Guitair and piano.
The video is out now for the first single “Help Is On The Way”, this is the only Cantonese song on the album as Jun wanted to an English language album this time round.
So head on down to HMV and grab a copy, or for those Digi heads amongst us it will be available in iTunes shortly.Video:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vQNny0YvEU8
Below is a link to the new video of track I worked on with Joey Yung. Always nice to see the final product after working on a song.
The video is not a typical video for a Canto artist and I believe that Joey did all her own styling for the MV.
Please check it out and let me know what you all think!!
Haven’t blogged much these last few months… Been busy as hell!!
I didn’t think they were going to do a video so glad they finally have… looking forward to seeing it soon. At least it will get sung in Karaoke now!!
Jun Kung and I have started a new production team in HK and our first client was none other then Joey Yung. The song is something very different from other Joey tracks and hopefully will be a plug track.
We had 2 days in the studio recording the track and Joey did a great job.. really stepped up to the plate as the vocals were not the usual canto style. Well done Joey.
This new production team between Jun and I is really something different for HK, I think we can really shake up the industry with our East meets West production.
Also thanks to Leo Chan at EEG who took the first leap working with this new team. I think we have a monster song on our hands and I will be very surprised if this new song doesn’t make a big splash in HK.
At the end of every session I make everyone do my signature “Poo Face”…lol!
We all had a lot of fun and I look forward to more work with Joey and future collaborations between HK’s newest production team and SE Asian artists!!
PRESTIGE WORLD WIDE!!!! lol!
So my journey with Sandy Lam continues, after already working for the past 2 months on Sandy’s new and exciting album, Sandy asked me to work on re-arranging some of her songs for her upcoming concerts in September at Kitec in Kowloon Bay. So yesterday I was aksed to attend the Press Conference at Kitec alongside Anthony Lun, Jun Kung, and Chris Polanco (the full musical arrangement team for Sandy’s concert).
After rushing around Central trying to find a nice shirt (in my size its pretty hard) I managed to grab a lift with Jun Kung up to the event. I dragged alongside Spencer Douglass as my photographer/assistant to help me out.
After a briefing with the production time we were stored away in the green room, Sandy popped in looking absolutely stunning and said high to all of us. We chatted for a while and then Sandy was whisked off to stand in front of the growing number of press in the main Marquee.
After about 30 mins or so we were taken backstage and waited for out turn to be introduced. Anthony was brought on first as he has worked with Sandy for many years both as a musical director and producer. Then it was my turn to get on stage, I gotta admit I was kind of nervous. I am very much a behind the scenes guy and getting on stage or in front of camera always gives me the screaming hibee gibees.
But it wasn’t as bad as I thought, the host Derek got Sandy to introduce me and give a little background on who I am and want I was doing in the concert. Then Chris and Jun were brought on in that order. Once on stage we were asked how we met Sandy and to speak a little about ourselves. Even though most of it was in Cantonese both Sandy and Jun spoke very highly of me which I was very grateful for. We had a lot of fun (as you can see from the photo) and I started to relax.
Next up was Chris had prepared a small sample of the Latin flavoured arrangement he is doing for Sandy and we were then handed bits of percussion and so ensued an impromptu performance with everyone on stage. At the end we all stood together and for some photos. I wish I had actually worn my sunglasses then as the flashes from all the photographers almost blinded me. I was seeing little white spots for about 10 minutes afterwards.
Anyway thanks to Sandy and all her team for including and giving me some good local press, also thanks for Jun and Lorna for getting me up there on time, and last but not least thanks for Spencer for getting in the press pit and getting some great photos, afterwards Spen felt it had to put on a tough face to next to me and Chris.
So I am coming to a close working on Sandy Lam’s new album. It’s a great album and the first one that has been mixed on our new addition at the studio, an SSL AWS 900SE+, formerly owned by Peter Gabriel.
The album is a very different sound from Sandy and I am excited to see the reaction. I think this is only the beginning of a long and strong working relationship with Sandy which I look forward to!!
Sorry for the long delay between blogs, been very busy working day in and day out, doing long hours and developing bags so big you could use them for your sunday shop!
Anyway.....One of the projects I was working on during my time in Shawshank was a track called "Fantasy" by a UK artist called BASHY. I co-produced the track with a producer called Devon The DJ and I also mixed the record as well.
So typically, in this day and age of the thing we call "The Internet" or "The Net" or " The Web" or whatever you want to call it, I actually didn't even meet the artist or the other producer in person. Everything was done over the internet, uploading & downloading, zipping & unzipping (not what you think!!), yousendit & ftp, email & Skype... you name it we used it!
Sorry I have digressed... the whole point of this blog was to tell you that "Fantasy" is released this Sunday (19th Sept) and all the support, downloading (legally ;p), blogging, and general love and admiration would be greatly appreciated!
The music video is now available on Youtube.. check it out and let me know what you think!
And for those who become new fans, please buy. Also they have asked me to work on the rest of the album and we will probably do it in HK as he is touring with Gorillaz... so in the near future if you out in LKF or SoHo and see me with him.. please show some HK love!
Forgot to add.. some of the female vocals on the track were sung by HK's very own Gretchell Yaneza
Peace.. and I'm Audi... 500!
This is just a quick blog to update you on the progress of the Race Wong project I have been working on. We managed to capture lots of "Behind the scenes" footage and we have put together a small promo video to show what we have been up to. The video was shot by Arne Venemaand Jona Chung Dha Lam and was edited by Arne.
Sorry guys, still no preview of the music yet. We have finished 4 songs and are making a few more, but over Chinese New Year we will working on Race's image and styling for her re-launch as an artist.
It has been fun (as you can see from the video) and the music sounds great, definitelty something different for Hong Kong.
But stay tuned cos after CNY we will be starting our promo campaign with a photoshoot, music video, and some performances!
You might have seen a few blogs around about the project I am working on with Race Wong, she has already done a few blogs about it. In between family, studio, and work from the UK I have finally managed to sit down and blog about the project. Race and I met through AnD (Thanks Patrick!) and after quite a few meetings and emails decided to work on Race's solo album project together. This is not just any album, this is a complete relaunch/re-brand of Race as an artist. Spencer Douglass has been busy behind the scenes setting things up, and getting more people involved. Arne Venema has been filming the behind the scenes footage and interviews for us as well. Jennifer Chiang is working with Race on performance training and choreography. We have been in the studio (Thanks to Jon Lee @ ThisMusicStudio) for 3 weeks now and have some very exciting and fresh songs, I encouraged Race to write the songs with me, and with the help of a Cantonese lyricist (Chan Wing Him) we are made some very very good music!Let me re-iterate, this is not like any other HK album you have heard. We have had a few AnD people stop by the studio to say hi and listen to the songs ( Patrick Lee, Marsha Yuan, Jun Kung, Robin Chi, Desmond So, plus a few more coming in the next few weeks) and they all agreed it was something very different, but still very exciting and commercial for the HK music scene. So below are some pics from some of the sessions. You will see that there are quite a few AnD artists involved in this project in different ways. This is a true AnD collaborative project and I will be updating more and more as the project takes shape. There will also be video footage and interviews soon... so stay tuned and any support from all you AnDer's is greatly appreciated Race behind the mic
