  • Noam Chomsky - Concision and 911 Conspiracy

Noam Chomsky is one of my favourite authors and speakers.  Though one of the world's leading intellectuals, he is rarely interviewed in the US media.  He doesn't speak in sound-bites and his ideas and answers delve deeper into the issues than the 30 seconds normally permitted to interviewees.

I've heard some people dismiss Chomsky as a conspiracy theorist.  But I think that's ignorant and simplistic and it falls within the concision-type thinking that he talks about in the video above.

"The beauty of concision is that you can only repeat conventional thoughts."

There are a number of conspiracy theories that say that the Twin Towers were brought down by a controlled explosion and not by the aircrafts that hit them.  Here's what Chomsky has to say about that:

Wow, I've not seen Chomsky in an interview in ages. Thanks for this.
Have admired him ever since we had to read "Knowledge of Language". He makes uncluttered and down-to-earth reasoning look so easy. When, in fact, we experience in day-to-day life that it's not.

Heard this guy's named mentioned a lot but this is the first time I bothered to watch / read up. Thanks for the links J.

Interestingly (reading his Wiki page) he explains a lot of the things I've been feeling but have been unable to put into words: Not in the video your posted here, but namely to do with my hatred of marketing people & corporate control of the arts & media.

On his Wiki page he spells it out the five "filters" through which all media information must pass before being presented to the public at large. Non-conspiratorial yet institutional & economically structured propaganda: The same filters which distort political information can also be applied to the creative arts ... not being able to see the problem clearly had been pissing me off for quite some time, and yet he clarified it in a paragraph. Will be keeping an eye out for him more often, because of your blog post.

    Vote for Chomsky! Actually, I think I read he's socialist-liberal and I'm anarchist-capitalist thru & thru :)

9/11. He is awesome! I am speechless! He was so eloquent and used such logic that even the conspiracy freaks have to say to them selves, "yeah, he's right."
I have family who are policemen and firemen, none from NY, and family who lived and still live in NY, and to all the theories I have always stated one thing. There is no way it could have ever been done on purpose, dynamite in the buildings and such.
First of all, no group would allow thousands of people to die! Its a miracle that there weren't thousands more.
Secondly, if you think they would let all those innocent people die then know this much...  there is NO WAY any group that would organize such a thing would allow one cop or fire fighter to die, let alone hundreds! Cause let me tell you something, if it had been organized by a group,  the FOP, FDNY  and the entire population of NY would have already taken care of all of them ;)

I'm still of the opinion that the Bush administration knew it was going to happen ~
yet they did absolutely, positively NOTHING to prevent it >.<

Video 1 - I get the point, you need more time to develop ideas than you get on mainstream media outlets.  It's true, no matter how many news channels there are, little of it has any depth.  PBS is the best, at least they'll give you 15 uninterrupted minutes.  MIT professor says education is a system of imposed ignorance --- yeah, I'd like to hear more on that provocative statement.

Video 2 - Yes, power systems will exploit an event like 9/11 to tighten control over the masses.  In the right hands though the 9/11 attack could have been used to create greater cohesion among the people, transparency in the government, and exercises of good will abroad.  People were "with" us back then.  There weren't masses of people saying yeah those innocent victims at the WTC deserved to die for their governments' historical wrongdoing.

Video 3 - I agree.  The idea that those dopes in the Bush administration conspired to carry out 9/11 is preposterous.  They were barely running the country.  And nearly everything about the "conspiracies" to invade Iraq have all come out, or at least the important ones.  I always said that it's almost impossible to carry off an important conspiracy (or even a small one) because someone always will blab.  The Bush team did exploit 9/11 from that point on to implement a pre-conceived agenda.  No doubt about that.

Noam Chomsky is GREAT. I can listen to him talk all day!
What he says about the towers is very practical and logical.
P.S. That DAMN photographer gets in the shot about halfway through his explaination!  Kick that guy out!
    =)
