  • Another Scare!

    Saturday, Jul 19, 2008 7:15AM / Members only

    Hello Everyone!

Man... Where to start? Its been one of those months! :(  Thank GOD that things are looking better now. But as you may all know, I was in the hospital recently because I had an operation. Well, after I went home, my parents came to town to visit me. If you guys are in LA, you know its been a hot summer so far, so I had the AC blasting since I don't do well in the heat!!

Well, my mother was sitting right in front of the AC when they were visiting me. Within a couple of days when she was at home, she started to feel sick. They thought it was bronchitis, but sadly it was misdiagnosed at first. I went to visit her and she was not doing too well. When I got home, I was actually sick myself. She was put in the hospital last week and it turned out that she has a severe infection of the brain. (For her the virus turned to Meningitis, and for me it was just a sinus infection) I of course have been so upset with a roller coaster of emotions. Was it my fault from the AC??? What could we have done differently? My mom is stubborn, and hates going to the doctor, so should we have forced her to go earlier?? Etc...  I should first say too, that so far this will NOT have a sad ending as she is getting better. But it got so bad that she was in a comatose state and on a ventiator and feeding tube. We were all preparing for the worst. There is nothing worse than looking at your mom, not knowing if she can hear you, machines keeping her body going, wanting nothing more than one more chance to tell her that you love her!

I have to say that when faced with these kinds of REAL life situations, you instantly see what is really important in life... And you see what is NOT important. I had been so consumed with my film, and getting the package all lined up, that I was missing out on other things in the family that were important too. Later in life will I regret more that my film wasn't made in '07 or will I regret that my future son or daughter never knew my mom and dad? You know what I mean?? Why do we put off life for career?? (should we?)  **It's a personal choice I guess... But going forward I will strive to be more balanced.

Anyways... My mom is still fighting the infection, but is awake, off the machines, and starting to try to eat again. We were lucky this time... But the sad truth of life, is that there will one day come a time when we will need to say goodbye to our loved ones... My advice to all out there is REALLY make the time count with the people you love... Tell them how you feel NOW... Show them how you feel NOW... The most prescious thing we have in life is TIME... once it runs out, its gone.

So Thank God for the people you have in your life who love you... And live every day like it could be the last... One day you will be right.

  • Time in the Hospital

    Friday, Jul 4, 2008 12:55AM / Members only

So recently as many of you know I had to go to the hospital to have an operation to repair a hernia!!  REALLY SUCKS!  Originally I was told by my surgeon that I would have to wait until the end of August to have the procedure done. This was tough, since I was in quite a bit of pain.  I went ahead and had put my name on a waiting list, just in case they could take me early.

2 days later they call me late in the afternoon to say they want to do the operation "tomorrow" since someone cancelled their procedure. So I jumped at the chance to get it over with (even though I was terrified to have it done).

Here is an account from my day from "hell"....

Alyssa and I got to the hospital at 5:45AM. Originally I was scheduled for and 8AM procedure. They alerted me that they moved me to 9AM. After waiting in the lobby for 90 minutes, they took me up to pre-op. Where they could put me in the funny gown and shower cap.

**Cell pic of me contemplating.  :)

After laying there for a few hours pondering all the things that could possibly go wrong during the procedure, I found out that the procedure before me was going to be more complex so I was on "standby"... No ETA on when they will be done. The anasteologist came in to ask me if I had any allergies... I told him (as I told the resident working with the surgeon) that I was allergic to penicillin. Turns out they had scheduled me to be pumped with that during the procedure despite me telling them that penicillin had almost killed my mom 20 years ago. They apologized, and said don’t worry; we can use another drug... Finally around 12:30 PM the doctor comes and says they finished the procedure and were going to go get some lunch... The nurse tells them that she had entered the proper info into the system, and it turned out she had reinstated the penicillin drug to be used since when the anasteollogist called to cancel it, the computers were down and she missed that "note" when they came back up...

    SCARY...

Anyways... since the doctor is going to lunch, I figure, it will be another hour or so... so "DONT PANIC"... The orderly comes in and says they were going to roll me down to another room to make space for the next person. Next thing I know I am in an elevator going to another floor, and another doctor in that elevator makes the joke "Why are you taking him to 2? Is he scheduled for a hysterectomy?" Turns out that floor is usually used for women’s procedures... But considering the "area" of my procedure and the screw up on the penicillin, I was sure hoping they wouldn't remove ANYTHING!!! :)

They roll me into the room... and I suddenly realize that this is the operating room... They strap me down onto the smallest table known to man, with my arms outstretched in a Christ-like position. Then a nurse tells me that they put some "medicine" in my IV, and that I was going to be going to sleep... Before I knew it within like 30 seconds everything went black...

Then suddenly I feel the sensation of being lifted up, and hear "We're all done Mr. Brown..." And I was slowly coming to, and the pain was INTENSE... They took me to recovery, and were pumping me with morphine every 20 minutes (as I would request). And I was thinking to myself... I thought morphine was supposed to be "da bomb"... and this crap doesn't do anything!! AHHH!  As I lay there slowly coming out of my daze, I am seeing other patients rolled in... One to the right of me was a 35 year old woman... I overheard the nurses talking, and it turned out she had cancer. She had a right mastectomy previously as well as a hysterectomy. They had just completed a left mastectomy... I thought to myself... "That poor woman..." She had been through so much and is so young really. I thought to myself, I wonder if she has kids? If she didn't then, because of her cancer she never will. Did she wait in life thinking that later on she'd have the chance, only to find out she wouldn't be able to, and not only that she would be fighting for her life??  I am turning 37 this year and it made me think that we may have our plans, but life sometimes has its own... Best not to put things off...

So after 90 minutes or so I was pretty lucid, so they took me to the room where I am supposed to have some food, and start to walk around... LET ME TELL YOU... this was the most intense pain I have ever had in my life... I literally had no control of my stomach muscles... I couldn't get out of bed or sit-up without feeling like my guts were going to spill out! AHHH!  It took me a good 2.5 hours to finally get out of the bed enough to prove to the hospital that they could let me go... That being said, they pumped me with more drugs and a double shot of vicodin (in addition to the 4 injections of morphine I had in post op).

As they were wheeling me out of the hospital to my car, I was REALLY thankful to all the hospital staff... for the most part it is these people who the sick really feel cared for by...

I spent the next 7 days in bed, popping vicodin 2 pills every 4 hours. That being said, you can soon see me on the latest season of "Dr. Drew's Celebrity Rehab". **I am kidding** :)  Totally off the pills... ha-ha

But I am getting back to work on producing my film project. I am speaking with a few distribution companies as well as my Exec. Producer to get the ball rolling again. I am still very sore... but ready to get back to work!!

The infamous Winchester Mystery House! *If you don't know about this place... it was built by the widow of the Winchester family (Winchester Rifles)... After the sudden death of her infant and then her Husband 15 years later she was told by a psychic that she was being cursed by the souls of the people that were killed by the Winchester Rifle... And the only way she could escape the demons was to move and build a house... (keep building to confuse the spirits) She built for 34 years until her death in 1923.

    Check out the roof tops!

This house was kinda creepy while also having a sense of beauty... She built stairways that went straight to the ceiling... and doors that opened to brick walls... Kinda crazy...

The pictures below... LOOK AT WITH CAUTION...

We found in San Jose an Egyptian Museum!! I was soo surprised! They even had REAL mummies and a replica of a tomb from egypt that was built as an exact replica that you can walk through... Was REALLY cool... The pics below are kinda scary if you dont like skeletons... But when ya think that these mummies are over 2000 years old, it's REALLY amazing!

This guy was 5 feet tall... It was average height for a man in that period due to the poor diets...

I think I will be cremated and not buried... I would hate to wind up in a museum!

This mummy was of a 28 year old woman... Hard to see from this picture... but she had beautiful teeth! Considering they are 2000+ year old... they are in AMAZING shape...

*I know... kind of a weird thing to say, huh?! :)  *When I was little I wanted to be a dentist! haha

  • When Stars attack...

    Tuesday, Apr 15, 2008 8:04AM / Members only

    OK... another funny article.

LOS ANGELES—An attack by Oscar-winner Nicole Kidman Monday left four handlers injured and two in intensive care, where they are listed in serious but stable condition.

The attack, which occurred during a photo shoot for Premiere magazine at the landmark Chateau Marmont in Hollywood, serves as a reminder that, despite their beautiful appearance, celebrities are both dangerous and unpredictable.

"Even experienced handlers can't turn their backs on these creatures," said celebrity behavīorist Laurel Fraser, who has conducted extensive field studies on such performers as Madonna, Bruce Willis, and an entire pride of Baldwins. "It's easy for people in the starkeeping profession to get complacent, and when stars sense that, they often lash out."

Stylist Melody Cosgrove was rushed to West Hills Hospital with broken bones, severe blood loss, and deep lacerations to the face, neck, and shoulders, likely inflicted by Kidman's cherry-red, two-inch talons. Personal assistant Barrie Levesque reportedly suffered extensive nerve damage, as well as severely yanked hair. Publicists Kiki Landresky and Martin O'Reilly have been released from West Hills after being treated for cuts and minor contusions. O'Reilly received a puncture wound to the thigh from one of Kidman's stiletto heels.

Celebrity-control officers working with the LAPD cornered the actress outside a sound stage at Hollywood Center Studios late Tuesday and shot her with a tranquilizer dart after failing to coax her into custody with an expensive gift bag.

"She was just calmly feeding at a craft-services table, unaware of all the havoc she raised," celebrity-control officer Rene Bofill said. "After being tranquilized, she began to snort and rave, knocking down tables and chairs before she collapsed near the set of That's So Raven."

As with many celebrity attacks, the victims reported that Kidman gave no warning before striking.

"She's been made up millions of times—I don't know why on this particular occasion she exploded," O'Reilly said. "It was pretty scary. She just coiled up in her makeup chair and pounced on the stylist."

Police rope off the area outside Chateau Marmont, where the Kidman attack took place.

After overpowering Cosgrove, Kidman turned on longtime assistant Levesque, beating him with her powerful, flapping arms, the span of which is reportedly six feet.

“[Levesque] is lucky he wasn’t killed,” Fraser said. “Nicole’s long, sinewy legs contain enough power to decapitate an adult human.”

Former personal assistant Kari Lynn Hable, who was hospitalized with compound leg fractures in 1999 following a violent encounter with actor Chris O'Donnell, said "there is no such thing as a tame star."

"Sometimes, we love our celebrities so much that we want them to experience the same freedoms we enjoy," Hable said. "But if something goes wrong, you'll quickly realize that a lot separates a celebrity from an ordinary human being. And believe me, you never, ever want to find yourself in the powerful jaws of a Chris O'Donnell."

The Kidman attack has raised questions about what motivates some individuals to handle and maintain such volatile creatures.

"The thing is, they're so gorgeous and exotic, it's like having a little piece of glamour with you at all times," Fraser said. "I'm not advocating irresponsible handling of celebrities. I've heard of some celebrity managers keeping two or three celebrities in their offices at one time. That's just cruel. You have to respect their space."

Kidman is currently in captivity in a Brentwood celebrity preserve while authorities debate whether she should be destroyed.
