  • A Few Ideas On Physical Fitness From My Own Experiences and Training

Function versus aesthetics;  the two deciding factors of my own physical training routine.  From a martial artist standpoint, training for function will always supersede working out solely for an outward aesthetic appeal, while the opposite is true for someone wishing to mainly to maintain a sort of physical attractiveness.  With that said, I truly believe exercise on any level is healthy as long as it is approached progressively. Before I entered the film industry my training routine was intended to help me acquire the explosiveness, flexibility, and specific muscle-memory needed to complement my martial arts studies.  During this time, I did mostly exercises that required my own body-weight (while I did lift weights during this period, I focused on more repetitions as opposed to more weight).

Currently much of my training time is spent in the weight room building a bit more bulk as I am prone to appear  a little thinner than I would like to be on film.  However, my martial arts studies is still very important to me, so I will spend at least two days out of my weekly training schedule to build power and explosiveness utilizing specific weight-training methods.  But since I would like to maintain a specific physique for work, I have reduced repetitions slightly and added more weight when I lift.  In addition, I like to keep limber and work on specific martial arts movements, exercises, and drills to reinforce my muscle memory in that field.

Mind, Body, and Spirit.  In my humble opinion, all three are important and I believe a person can reap great benefits if all three are trained properly.

And a thank you to adidas for the new set of training clothes.  I especially like the cut and material of the training pants as they are comfortable and truly do not impede any movement at all during any portion of my exercise routine. Thumbs up! :)
