Can't wait to watch YOU DON'T MESS WITH ZOHAN with friends tomorrow, so with nothing better to do today, i wobbled down to Pacific Place AMC to buy tomorrow's tix ...
Getting to the cinema (my favorite in HK at present btw), i noticed a little indy film called BOTTLE SHOCK with limited showings this week, starring Alan Rickman (classy and brilliant comedic character actor), Bill Pullman and Dennis Farina - and then it struck me, when I remembered reading about it on IMDB previews a while back and saying to myself at the time, I'd really want watch it when it's out - but being such non-mainstream niche flick, it will never hit the cinema screens in HK (so, just wait for the DVD) -- haha ---so, my spontaneity of the day ..... Fat Pat watches 3.50pm show of BOTTLE SHOCK

BOTTLE SHOCK is a charmimg movie, based on the true underdog's story of the Chateau Montalena vinyard in California and the happenings behind the breakthrough of "New World" wines onto the snobbish centuries-established French dominated wine industry in the mid-70's ...... as expected Rickman is brilliant!

Wine-lovers will love it ....... just as delightful and funny as Sideways ... i think i actually enjoyed it more!
Gotta admit, I was myself guilty of being an utter wine snob too, until about 10 years ago and did truly believe that the best Clarets only came from Bordeaux and the best Chardonnays only from Burgundy ...... I was so very wrong! .... these days I mostly consume stuff from the US, Oz or South America only .... how about u guys?

ZAKUMI the dreadlocked leopard has been unveiled as the official mascot of the 2010 World Cup in South Africa .... "Za" stands for South Africa and "Kumi" means the number 10 in various Afrikaans languages ...
As a marketer (I think I still am -- haha) and appreciator of clever branding and product associations, I take my hat off to FIFA for bringing us Kazumi .... I think this cute guy is totally GOAL!
"Zakumi represents the people, geography and spirit of South Africa, personifying in essence the 2010 FIFA World Cup. We are certain we will have a lot of fun with him in the lead-up to and during the FIFA Confederations Cup and the FIFA World Cup," - FIFA Secretary General Jerome Valcke

I have now returned to HK from the UK for nearly 13 years ..... actually, it's a pretty small place, so I really dunno why I had previously time and time again overlooked visiting the Territory's third largest Island - Lamma Island .... always opting for the other Outlying Islands, Cheung Chau, Lantau or Peng Chau instead .... strange!
Wiki on Lamma for those interested .... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lamma_Island
Anyway, on this sun-drenched Mid-Autumn day with nothing much-ado planned after a lazy morning .... it was spontaneously decided upon to take the ferry ride and have a late lunch there and gentle stroll .... geez, it was hot! (33C today)

It was 3pm when we got off the ferry and I was really hungry ..... we just made a dash for the nearest okay looking place to fill-up the belly .... it happened to be a seafood restaurant ....

Clams in Black Bean Sauce, "Tung Choi" with Preserved Shrimp Paste & Chilli, Mixed Vegetable Egg FooYong and Steamed Buns with Condensed Milk ....

Throughout HK, Lamma Island's legendary "GrandMa's Tofu Dessert Stall" is often spoken of in the highest order by dessert-lovers ... meaning that our main after-lunch activity was to seek out Grandma for this fat-boy to try out her "tofu-flower" ... haha!

GrandMa was there too .... personally serving-up a long long queue of customers, her big bowls of delicious tofu dessert at $7 a bowl ..... incredible value!

YUMMY!

Mid-Autumn conclusion .... Lamma Island is a nice place - I mustn't overlook visiting regularly any longer ...
