  • murder or not, let the video speaks for itself...

    Saturday, Jan 17, 2009 5:17AM / Standard Entry

so here below are the footage taken by witness. several point of interest to consider:

    1. is it possible for the officer to pick up the wrong gun? he is supposed to be equipped with a taser on one side and a real gun on the other.
    2. if you use a taser gun to shock people, you have to be actually touch the person, but from the footage, u can see clearly that after he pulled the gun out, he moved up a bit and fired the shot from a short distance... what does it mean?
    3. with at least 2~3 officers handling the man together, is it necessary to fire the shot?

(the shot at about 0:55 to 1:00) (it seems like there is some unknown problem for me to link this video, but this is the one that shows it the best with the sound, so if u can see it here, plz click the link right below to check out the video....)

  • Oakland protest, politicized or not?

    Friday, Jan 16, 2009 6:33AM / Standard Entry

People from the bay area have probably heard about the new year bart incident, in which a white bart cop shot an unarmed black man during a confrontation. at first, the bart police suggested that the man resisted arrest and was shot by accident, but then videotaped footage by passer-by witness showed that the unarmed man was lying on his stomach with no sign of resistence at all, and then the cop shot him using  his gun, which the authority wasn't sure if he misidentified the taser gun with the real thing...

so several big protests were held in oakland, including one last week and one yesterday, also another one in san franciso a few days ago, the first one last week actually led to a min-riot, hundreds of people were arrested for vandalism and people were commenting the case along with the rodney king incident in the 90s...

the white cop refused to talk during the investigation and resigned after the incident to avoid internal interrogation, and later fled to nevada, and at the end, the district attorney issued an arrest warrant, got him and brought him back for a murder charge, the guy is now detained in jail, waiting for his court date... but somehow a lot of people believed that he will be clear of his charge though...if it really happens, i guess most are worried that there will be another big riot, just like the one in 1992...

police abuse isn't really a new issue, but the point here is that a white cop killed an unarmed black man.. what do you think? is this politicized or not? even though this country is known as the melting pot, racial issue is never resolved... that's why nowdays after so many years since slavery ended, race is still a common topic for filmmakers..e.g. right now the movie topping the box office, gran torino, is another example..

p.s. the pics above were taken yesterday night (wed) in oakland downtown, due to the fact that a lot of cars were smashed and kindled last week, when i got there, there was almost no car parking in the street, and handful of cops were blocking broadway, the main street in downtown.. windows of some stores were smashed, and a few people were arrested...cops could be seen everywhere as if the downtown is under curfew....

  • How many christmas cards did you get this year?

    Wednesday, Dec 31, 2008 6:39PM / Standard Entry

How many christmas cards did you get this year? I mean, paper one.. this year I got about 3, which kinda broke the lowest record again..  one is from an internet service i subscribed, another two are from some work connections, none from real friends... but then the number i actually mailed out was 0...

somehow i did make a xmas jpg card and sent to about 30~40 friends, but then I only received about 3~4 replies so far (i emailed a few days before xmas...)

does it signify that people don't care much about xmas now? or that it is a sign of a losing connection at the internet age? when it is too easy for us to get something, we just don't value it anymore..

i still remember the days when i relied on mail to keep in touch with my friends in other countries, now i can't remember how long i haven't actually written a letter using a pen....

  • Blow Job

    Thursday, Dec 18, 2008 4:20PM / Standard Entry

Yeah, I know what you thought, but no, it is not what you wanna see.

The subject refers to Andy Warhol's short film "Blow Job" (aka Andy Warhol's Blowjob), basically it is a 35mins film of one single take showing the closeup of a man's face when he is supposed to be having the aforementioned service by a man...

Check an excerpt of the film here:

    Video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3JytSZFL3_g&feature=related

I have seen this film long time ago when i was at film school, so it is nothing new to me, but thinking about making short films, a question just pops up my mind: If this film is made by a nobody like me, would it receive the same kind of respect as warhol got? i have read tons of analytical writing about this film (which i hardly agree), but if it is made by some unknown artists, do you think anyone would even bother to see it or write about it?

actually last year when i went to a short film festival, i saw a similiar film showing a man sitting at a electric chair, simulating the action of electrocution. like "blowjob", it is one single take without any movement and it focuses on the facial expression and body movement of the actor. even though it is only 3 mins long, all of the audiences at the fest kinda started booing after 1 min and eventually cussed aloud after it's over.. i mean, if this film is made by andy warhol or any other renowned artist, i wonder if they would react the same??

so it just got me wondered, what is art? when people appreicate art, is it the art piece itself or the artist they appreciate?
