Eating FM "Pork Belly Rappers"...

EATING FM: "Pork Belly Rappers"

After a full day of finalizing the recording of the last tracks on Animal and getting ready for mixing, its time to grub down. We called up the man over at BMI, Ray Yee, and decided on some good ol Korean BBQ.

Headed to Koreatown to a famous spot called Shik Do Rak... Known for some pork belly wrappers...

called the "HOUSE OF DUK BO SAM".. which is a thin rice paper that you wrap your pork or meat in..

Ray is an OG in the game, and one of the few if not only Asian exec at BMI

Always good talking music with Ray... he keeps us filled in on where he see's the game going and what's been working for other artists

We usually order some thin sliced beef, cut up steak.. and pork belly... whenever i hear that i think.. "WTF? Pork belly?" .. then i realize.. its just a fat piece of bacon hahha

They have all kinds of traditional korean dishes.. but we usually mess with the bloody beef/pork combo that feeds 4 and comes with soup and sides...

THE STEPS TO A GOOD KOREAN BBQ MEAL:

  1. If you don't speak korean, ask your korean friend to order... if no one is korean... look at the pictures and hope the description is in english

  1. Start puttin the meat on the barbie...First we start with the thin sliced beef called Chadolbegi... it cooks up hella fast so you gotta be fast on the grab

J Splif came to Dance Like Mike.

  1. Then we drop in the pork belly and steak, cuz they take a bit longer to cook up

This place was one of the first places to start with the Duk Bo Sam (rice paper wrapper)...

  1. Once the meat is cooked to perfection... you take a thin sheet of the rice paper and wrap it around the meat

  1. Then you dip it in a lil sesame oil salt sauce.. and the hot sauce, add a little salad inside your bite sized wrap and grub down.

  1. After all the bbqin is finished, they bring out a soup that everyone shares to cap the meal

  1. and then you wash it down with this wheat/rice flavored water tea... cuz theres no time or space for water when you fighting for a finished piece a pork..

  1. Then you chill and talk about how full you are... and what the plans are for ANIMAL.

  1. Then you head here...

What WE Thought:

Restaurant: Shik Do Rak

Location: Koreatown - on Hoover and Olympic

Price Range: around $20 per person

We recommend: Pork bellies, thin sliced beef, rice paper wrappers,

Service: service is good, they're fast on making sure your side dishes are filled up

Rating: - ***2.0 FINGERS UP.

This spot has been around for ages so we go here by default.. theres a few other spots around ktown that get a 3 fingers up for flavor but i'd still recommend this spot if your ever in the area.
