See Me Drink a BUG Cocktail!

Lately, I've been blogging a lot about cockroaches because of a certain unwelcome visitor in my house (see previous blogs).

Well, as some of you know since I've come to you for advice, my throat's been bothering me on and off for the past few months. It's very annoying since I depend on my voice for a livelihood so I have been trying all kinds of different remedies from lozenges to teas to honey.

Well, the CRAZIEST thing I tried was drinking hot water infused with salted bees! Yes, bees. However, even though they are called "bees", they look like a science-experiment-gone-wrong cross between cockroaches and huge flies.

I should have known better when I saw the brown ooze...

In goes the hot water...

My self-made strainer.

No, I did not eat the strained contents in case you were wondering.

What was I thinking?!!!!??!!

BOTTOMS UP!!!!!!!!

The verdict? I'm sticking to the Nin Jiom Pei Pa Koa!!!

I\'ve had my share of prepared insects around the world, but this one is just plain wrong. Ginger and honey! Still, props for trying it.

Des, Des, take care of your voice and I don't think bees is the way to go. Try some slippery elm in capsules. OR licorce tea. Also steaming with tea tree oil is good for the whole system from sinuses to throat. Stay well

ewwwww icky !!! I think you're brave to even try that, i know i couldnt drink it. But then since you depend on your voice, i guess you need to try what ever may work.

Desmond (蘇頌輝) is a host of TVB Pearl's lifestyle and luxury-living show Dolce Vita. He is also an English and Cantonese speaking events and show emcee.

Desmond now stands in front of the camera after having worked behind it for three years at ABC, Inc. in New York. There, he worked on shows such as The View, The Bachelor, All My Children, and Miss America. While living in New York, Desmond was also involved with Second Generation, a non-profit theater company devoted to bringing Asian American stories to the world's stage.

In addition to his TV and emcee work, Desmond is also an etiquette consultant who helps individuals and companies build confidence through the practice of etiquette (www.njtrf.com). A die-hard fan of those who are polite and well-mannered, he believes that you can never say "please" and "thank you" too many times.

A native of Hong Kong who has been away most of his life, Desmond is glad to be back and part of the 'alive not dead' community.
