Bin Laden is dead, after 10 years we now have closure...|

I stole this picture from Jeff Staple's blog because I couldn't find a better one online that captured the moment I heard the news. I think I would have liked to have seen what would have happened if they caught him alive but now there is closure for those affected by the events of 9.11. The operation was carried out by a small group of highly trained NAVY SEALS. Very brave men. I had a classmate in junior high school that went on to be a NAVY SEAL. I wonder if he was involved?

I think its very good that he's dead. There is just one problem now: Theres every likelihood that Al Qaida will take revenge. I hope we (everbody on earth) can prevent a repetition of 9.11. Respect to the Navy Seals.

I cannot celebrate murder, not even the murder of a murderer. Martin Luther King said it best (imo): "I mourn the loss of thousands of precious lives, but I will not rejoice in the death of one, not even an enemy. Returning hate for hate multiplies hate, adding deeper darkness to a night already devoid of stars. Darkness cannot drive out darkness: only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate: only love can do that" — Martin Luther King Jr

I don't think they purposely killed him. I doubt anyone here has ever been in a firefight but it's not easy to control what happens when bullets are flying everywhere. There is no doubt that OBL wanted to die a martyr and he would not have allowed himself to be taken alive. Besides, for the US administration, there is much more value (publicity and otherwise) to march him back to the US in handcuffs and chains. Killing him is not what the administration wanted either. But in the heat of the moment, national policy is the last thing on the minds of young, scared, and overzealous soldiers.

There are definitely mixed reactions here in the States. I personally went down to Ground Zero today and the tourists and the newscasters seemed more overjoyed than the locals. Us who live in NYC now have to worry more about retaliation. I spoke to some of the construction workers who are working on the new World Trade Center Towers and they found all of the hooplah more of a nuisance. They just wanted to get the job done and not have to worry about a mess of extreme patriots getting followed around by cameras, blocking their way to work. Closure is great; however, we sacrificed a great deal to get it. At this point, the people that I have encountered and myself included want to just move on with our lives. We do not want to live in fear, which is evident every time I go to the airport. "It's just a cup of pudding officer...no, I don't want to go in the XRay machine..." AND that was before Osama was killed. Now I have to worry about hopping on the train, or just walking down the street. That is not winning the war on terror, that is losing. From my friend's post on FB, "I mourn the loss of thousands of precious lives, but I will not rejoice in the death of one, not even an enemy. Returning hate for hate multiplies hate, adding deeper darkness to a night already devoid of stars. Darkness cannot drive out darkness: only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate: only love can do that."

no closure bro... justice is served but terrorism is up... fearing retaliation...even if he was captured alive. Where and what will they do to him? He had like 4-5wives and 20 children... his legacy will go on.... only one son died along with him...;-( we still live with threats of terror in our backyard... it will never go away...

recalling the news of 911 then was really shocking and horrible and sad. mankind has evolved to such terror acts. but only then the world has started to realise the danger and damaging power of terrorism. i was awaken to the fear and terror and have also come to realise the good and peaceful life i have live. i remember watching 24 and this has made me wonder to my imagination. he is dead but is it now or it has been long ago... and only now then we are allow to know this ... no matter what ... i wish that terrorism would be wiped out... no more such horrible acts.

The man was a coward who ran while his soldiers and supporters fought. And then hid out for 10 years. In the end, he refused to surrender, fought back, and used his wife as shield. He was an enemy combatant, by definition, since he declared war on the US and carried out attacks on US soil and abroad. Would I have preferred he be captured and be tried as a war criminal, like some of the the Nazis were? Yes. But shooting him in the head is OK too.

We may be at peace for now, but the war has only just began. He may have been dead to us, but his people will live on to do what they have to do. I think it's scary to think things like this because it scares me to know if I am safe or if terrorism will bring to another level so powerful and undefeatable that we U.S. soldiers won't be able to protect this country. I can only wish that our troops stay strong and healthy for the time being.

personally, being an outsider and monitoring the whole situation as an audience, i felt the Americans went over board with the celebration after receiving the news. i mean, yes. 9.11. was tragic but is the celebration necessary? i understand i'm not closely tied to the tragedy but still, i think the response is just too childish. show this post on a friend's update: "10 years, 2 wars, 919,967 deaths & $1,188,263,000,000 later, we finally managed to kill one person. Hope it was worth it." which i agree to that statement and it kind of sums up my thought. i always believe in the phrase, when you respect others, people respect you in return. not that i'm interested in political issues, but as a general public, my respect to the Americans decrease due to the way they re-act/response to the news. hopefully i'm not creating a 'war' here. not intended. just saying my point of view in the best politeness possible.

there were ZERO AMERICAN casualties in the crossfire..so how many other non-Americans died, dude?i honestly doubt the whole report and disgusted at how they celebrated his death!he may have brought grieve to some of them personally, but have they once considered the grieve and massive destruction their money contributed to the daily devastation to the people living in the country occupied by the US army.oblivious people living in the city on the hill.it's unfortunate that they only consider the Americans having the rights to live and be alive..what about the Afghans and other civilians who died in this war?Aren't they someone's dad, someone's son, someone's husband, someone's someone too..*peace*
