Martina Navratilova and Art Grand Slam

Video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lPdWpatQaLI The Sovereign Art Foundation recently invited Martina Navratilova and Juro Kralik to Hong Kong for the HKArt fair to promote the Foundation and Art Grand Slam and I was fortunate enough to spend some time with the tennis legend. Martina won 59 grand slam crowns during her domination of the courts, including 9 Wimbledon titles. She has now turned her hand to art and her collaboration with Juro allow...Read more

Jeanne's acting classes

One of the best things a director can do is take an acting class. It isn't easy to get the time to do it but thanks to Jason Tobin refusing to take "no" for an answer, I was one of the lucky ones to benefit from Jeanne Hartman's two-day workshop. Kudos to the Alive Not Dead crew for backing this project and giving Jeanne and Jason plenty of "air" time on the site to promote it. Many of those who attended have already written about the benefits from an acting background. From a director's viewpoint,...Read more

Hermes gig

Top end fashion brand Hermes recently asked me to be their Travel Ambassador and one of my duties has been to take their VIPs on an oral travel tour of some of my favourite locations on the planet. Hermes fitted out its Galleria store in Central in the theme of three of those chosen locations - Xinjiang, Vietnam and Mauritius.

The Xinjiang set has been cleverly constructed and includes a traditional yurt home favoured by the nomadic ethnic tribes of Xinjiang and a full size replica of a camel! The Vietnamese set has a full size traditiona...Read more

Earth Day in the Philippines

My Earth Day quest for National Geographic Channel continued with a trip to the Philippines where I caught up with some old friends, including tv host Kim Atienza. Kim is the Philippines' version of the late Steve Irwin, complete with hat, khaki shorts and Blundstone boots. He hosts a programme called Matinglawin and we traded interviews for each other's programmes which was very cool. I also interviewed the energy minister, Secretary Alfonso Reyes, who made me put on an Earth Hour t shirt before he'd succumb to the i...Read more

Nat Geo Earth Day shoot

Ocean Vista Films has been tasked by National Geographic Channel to produce its on-air promos for its Earth Day campaign and I have been fortunate enough to direct the shoots.

Earth Day will be celebrated on April 22.

Filming has taken us from Hong Kong to Kuala Lumpur, SIngapore and Manila. The team has lined up some of our best celebrity friends and public figures from around Asia to tell us, and you, what they are doing to help save the planet.

We filmed Sir David Tang in his home in Hong Kong and were tre...Read more

ISHK Film Panel Discussion

The independent film crew really turned out in force for the I Shot Hong Kong Film Festival panel discussion at California and I must thank everyone who came for showing support.

A BIG crew came from Alive Not Dead, including Simon, Patrick, Darren, Rob, and spenser. I'd also like to thank Terence Yin for his tireless support of I Shot Hong Kong.

All in all, about 80 people turned up to listen to the speakers, Bey Logan (Weinstein Co), Lorna Tee (Irresistible Films)  and Antony Szeto (director, Wushu).

Bring your filmmaking questions, conundrums and queries down to California bar in LKF tomorrow night for the film panel at 9 p.m.

Hear people's views on the state of the industry in Hong Kong, what's going on in other Asian centres, what needs to be done in Hong Kong to usher in a new era of filmmaking prosperity, and how the industry here can better foster, recognise and use new talent.

It will also be interesting to hear how other people have carved their path; how they have problem solved. Our guests Lorna T...Read more

Lombok On My Mind

Ahhhh. CNY is still on the mind. Lombok and its crystal clear barreling reef breaks, fresh seafood and powerful arak are a heady draw that has me working my schedule book just days after getting back, searching for more time off and the next trip.

Situated off Bali and almost as big, Lombok has everything Bali has minus the crowds, the hassle, the aggro, and the neon lights. Its gentle, rural muslim atmosphere is soothing to the soul.

Getting up early a.m., putting the surfboard on the rack on the side of the mo-ped and spee...Read more
