Felicia Tang RIP

This morning I awoke to check my email and was horrified by an email sent to me by a photographer friend. Felicia Tang, model and actress, had been tortured, murdered and mutilated by her boyfriend. Her body was found on Friday but was not identified until today. I worked with Felicia on a clubwear catalogue a few years back. We also appeared in a number of calendars together. And I think she was also a Benchwarmer model.

Felicia's boyfriend was a preacher and had studied in the seminar. This crime is unbelievable. But what is also so disturbing is the way in which it has been reported. Felicia has been portrayed in the media as a "porn star". She was not a porn star. She did pose nude. She did do movies where she took off her clothing. She did not have sex on film. Period. The media is using the "porn star" angle to sensationalize her death and therefore make for more interesting copy. This is a woman who was a victim of domestic violence. In no way should she be dragged through the mud for her so-called "lifestyle".

I can't believe what I just read, what you have done here is unconscionable. You obviously don't care about the facts or portraying an accurate story, only to sensationalize this tragedy for your own purposes. The real tragedy is to those of us who knew her, what a beautiful person she was, and to see you reduce her to something like this is sick. We grieve for her and to see this only makes it worse.

My condolences to you Candace. It is a horrible way to lose anyone on earth let alone a friend and colleague. I feel so sorry for her family and everyone`s outrage is legitimately expressed. The character of her murderer should be on trial in the media not her career. And I can honestly say that even if she were a XXX porn star it would not entitle anyone to torture and kill another human being. May she RIP.

It was on the front page of the newspaper here in Singapore this morning (since she was born here apparently).

Its really tragic, when I heard about it I realized that I had worked on the same set as her on 'Cradle 2 the Grave' a while back.

I agree with Cliff Carter: labeling Felicia a "porn star" introduces "moral character" into the picture, which shifts the blame away from the "preacher", and and puts the victim on trial. This attitude toward women is not only prevalent but codified and institutionalized: In the U.S., domestic violence is a "Pre-existing Medical Condition" that denies a woman health care coverage and life insurance! We should not ignore or underestimate the damage that this journalist's "morality" angle will do to Felicia's friends and family, and to their ability to gain justice for what has done. I am reposting the correct link to the CBS news article and urge people to leave comments speaking out strongly against the damaging "porn star" label.

Being in the legal field, this is what you call "Putting the Victim on Trial" - the boyfriend's family, or legal representative, or the P.R. person for his church/congregation, etc., also most likely contributed to this "sensationalism journalism" to deflect criticism from them onto her and her alleged "lifestyle". It is also my understanding that in addition to being a model, she was also possibly currently in the real estate/mortgage broker/banking business? So, she must have something on the ball brainpower-wise and knowledge-wise for someone to have hired her in that industry, and therefore they already knew of her background, true or otherwise alleged, and had full-faith and trust in her abilities, trustworthiness, and CHARACTER. Here we go again with the ALLEGED 'RELIGION RIGHT" AND "MORAL MAJORITY" trying to character-assassinate someone who doesn't fit their cookie-cutter mold of a so-called "model citizen" - well, you are right when you point out so succinctly what about the "family values" preacher boyfriend/MURDERER? Succinctly, this is a murder/domestic violence matter of issue, this IS NOT an issue of nude modeling, etc.

I was the casual dated friend of the accused and I want to put on the record he was not a Preacher he worked in sales for Verizon Wireless @ least thats what he told me....he did attend in his younger days ministry education courses! He was a heavy drug user...and when consuming drugs became arrogant, rude, jealous and possessive. I am sickened by this and send my regards and regrets to all our friends who knew and loved Felecia....and especially to her family. She was a very beautiful person. We all are deeply saddened by the loss....

As for the media (the idiot who reported her to be in porn) You should get a new job...because you suck at journalism, printing untrue facts it's just pure SLANDER!!!!

it's so tragic. i had asked her to participate in one of my comics projects.
i am deeply saddened & stunned by this news of her death.
first, it was that poor girl from yale, annie le.
now this...
all of this violence against beautiful asian women...it's horrible...

It sickens me that someone would use the brutal death of a beautiful human for shock value. This type of "journalism" seems to run rampant these days. I know of Felicia Lee and there is no way I would consider her a porn star. Everyone should be focusing on her tragic death and the people that are hurting around her.

Very well written Candace. My thoughts and prayers go our to Felicias friends and family.
