Richard Trombly
Richard Trombly is a screenwriter and director currently developing the Chinese-language feature film THE JOURNEY HOME and he is a producer of the international spy film FATHER JOHN. He is from the Belchertown, Massachusetts, USA where he attended the University of Massachusetts and studied film, theater and literature. He was a business journalist and editor for national-level publications including Associated Press and The Hollywood Reporter. He arrived in China in 2003, originally working as an editor for the Shanghai Daily newspaper and since that time has returned to his interests in film and stage. He has appeared in CCTV television shows, TV advertisements, National Geographic films and several movies including THE WHITE COUNTESS, MARCO POLO, THE PAINTED VEIL, MILK and FASHION and others. He has written and directed several short films in Mandarin Chinese and is a professional scriptwriter. He co-founded East West Theater, Shanghai's only locally based English language theater company and produced several shows put on by the troupe. He also is a producer with Shanghai-based Meiwenti Productions where he has sponsored and produced short films from the independent film community. He is was associate producer on China Venture Films productions of Milk and Fashion and Distance Runners. He has most recently produced the the low budget horror film The Ghosts of Old Shanghai by director Eric Heise.
After 20 years of business and journalistic writing and editing experience, Richard has returned to his interest in film.
He is interested in environmental sustainability and space exploration (and exploitation.) He also likes to take long solo bike, canoe or hiking expeditions.
