Growing up in Los Angeles, Melody Yeung spent most of her formative years on numerous arts. She ice skated for 8 years, participated in talent singing contests, took Tae Kwon Do, joined the swim team for a few years, and acted in commercials. When she wasn't being chauffeured around for all these activities, Melody loved singing the pop songs her mother enjoyed and spent a lot of free time drawing pictures and making up songs. She learned to whistle and breathe at the same time by the time she was 3 and the very first song she learned how to sing was Simply Red's "Holding Back the Years" when she was 4. By middle school, she had written her first real song and was spending most of her time in mixed choirs and acting in musicals.
During college, Melody spent her free time singing with a Christian worship band called Envision Revival and got her very first lesson on how instruments were married with the sound of ones voice to make emotional and beautiful music. The experience of singing in front of a live band is one that she cherishes the most and wishes to one day do again. During this time, she also started to play the guitar more frequently and decided that it was an ideal tool for her to write heart-felt songs. She wrote her first rock ballad in 2001.
From a chance meeting with Nicky Lee in the summer of 2001, Melody met the team that was Taiwan's premier hip hop group, Machi. After giving them a demo of her recent works and having an informative lunch about the music business, Melody made the daring move to take a break from school and leave Los Angeles to live in Taiwan with no relatives and no known friends.
She spent two and a half years learning the Mandarin language and getting experience from touring with the existing Machi crew, while working on her own music at the same time. She also collaborated with other artists such as Stanley Huang and Nicky Lee. By 2005, She had penned a song for a short film and composed the first EP single for China Idol's "Bibi" Zhou Bi Chang.
Melody currently resides in Taipei where she enjoys interior decorating and painting. She has two mischievous dogs (Buddy and Charlie) to keep her company, and dreams about what her next album will be like. Her album, "Ni Bu Zhi Dao" (You Don't Know) is her first solo album released in March 2007.
