Positivity IX

There are lots of people who are jaded and carry self blame for alot of unhappiness and what they deem as failures in their lives. Asking them to be positive is unthinkable, because it is almost pretentious. How can you truly feel that you're not a failure?Well here's a story to share with you.

A water bearer from India carried two pots on a stick. One of the pots were perfect but the other was cracked. Naturally the pot with no crack delivered a full portion of water for the bearer after he travelled the long distance from the stream to his master's home. The cracked pot however was always left with half. The perfect pot was deeply proud of its accomplishment and the cracked pot was sad and ashamed that it had never been able to serve the water bearer well.

After two years the cracked pot was so upset it apologized to the water bearer.

"I am ashamed of myself and I want to apologize to you"

The pot went on to lament that it was a failure because of the crack  that causes water to leak out each time and the water bearer would travel a long distance each time but only retain one and a half pots full of water.

The water bearer felt sorry for the cracked pot and told it to notice the surroundings as they made their way back to the master's house. Indeed as the cracked pot looked up at the sky and saw the bright sun it felt cheered. The flowers and grass along the way comforted it as well. However when they arrived back at the master's house it was still feeling guilty and bad because it retained only half of the water in its pot as usual. It started to apologize to the water bearer again.

But the water bearer told him " Did you notice that there were only flowers on your side of the path but not on the other pot's side.? That's because I have always known of your flaw and took advtanage of it. I planted flower seeds on your side of the path and everyday while we walk back from the stream, you've watered it."

For two years the man had plucked the beautiful flowers that had bloomed and kept them on the table in the master's house.

Too often we look at ourselves and wonder about the flaws we have. We lament, sigh and think that we are "cracked" like the pot and that other people will not understand how much we have been through. Some things are undefinable and irreversible and we think it's a dead end. But no, let's change our minds and see the good we have in our power to make the "flowers" in our path "bloom".

Thanks again for another great positivity entry Lydia. These last couple of days I've come close to falling off the positivity wagon due to various recent events so jaded is one feeling that has been creeping back into my life. After reading this entry though I'm feeling a lot better and am remembering that things do happen for a reason! :)
