Kia, are you serious?

As expected, the league announced that Lebron will get his MVP trophy today. Check out the official press release. I've taken the liberty to highlight and underline the best part.

CLEVELAND -- According to a league source, LeBron James will be named the NBA Most Valuable Player this afternoon. James has chosen to have the announcement at St. Vincent-St. Mary High School in Akron. All his Cavs teammates are expected to be thereas well as representatives from Kia, which will give him a new car as part of the honor.

welcome to paradise

What a great weekend! Friday night I had dinner with all the former coworkers to celebrate a friend's bday. Spent all of Saturday hiking, eating, and resting. Sunday morning... watched the Celtics/Bulls game 7, and now I'm getting ready to start the Green Day cover story for next issue of Beats.

We are still awaiting the stuff from Warners. Green Day did a press junket two days ago and we had a stringer there record everything. I was supposed to do the junket in person a month ago, but GD's management changed dates/loc...Read more

Why I Love Sports by Bill Simmons

This is from Bill Simmons' latest ESPN column. It's about the NBA (as usual. he's probably the only dude who's a bigger NBA fanatic than I am. I love that guy), or more specifically, it's about the already legendary Boston/Chicago series.

Here is what he wrote about why he loves sports:

There are many great things about sports, but here's one of the best: You never know when two teams will click. I used a boxing analogy in Read more

COME ON NBA HONG KONG

It is killing me--almost literally--that I cannot watch the Bulls/Celtics series. I know the media is a hype machine and loves to declare things "the greatest this" and the "most exciting that" every year. But this Bulls/Celtics series really is one for the ages.

As my idol, ESPN Sports Writer Bill Simmons, already pointed out, this is the classic "aging, banged up team of proud veterans" fighting off the "young, talented, and hungry up and comers on the verge of greatness".

above us only sky

please take care Mexico...

and everyone in Southern Cali.

I'd like to share with you all one of my favorite scenes from Forrest Gump. This movie didn't do much for me as a kid. I remember my mom gushing over how awesome it was (she was a Tom Hanks/Pat Dempsey fan) and I was like "calm down now... lemme get back to watching Pippen dunk on Ewing" (94 ECF. Still the GOAT of facials).

But now that I have a better understanding of the historical significance of the characters Forrest meets--and affect--...Read more

Wolverine

Lun Wong told me he expected a blog from me after the Wolverine screening so here goes:

On second thought, I'm not gonna write a full blog because I am gonna blog about the uncanny Celtics/Bulls series soon...I'll just do Wolverine cliff notes style.

The Good:

-The one thing the filmmakers got right is they gave the geeks what we wanted from Wolverine in the first hour or so: Wolverine going berserk (right at the beginning actually... and as a kid no less), Wolverine saying his signature line "I'm the best t...Read more

come through, something ill, missing the ceiling

Reading the news and seeing stickups and killings, kidnappings, project buildings, drug dealings (cuz Nas' rap is compared to legitimized crap) on a daily basis is depressing enough.

The last thing we need is a swine flu epidemic.

Hope they get it under control in Mexico. Take care over there, all of you in Southern Cali....

I'm watching The Matrix right now. Ten years since this sci fi epic hit. We get great movies all the time, but a truly transcendent movie like The Mat...Read more

Lau Ching Wan!

After two years of working as a journalist, I finally, finally met Lau Ching Wan yesterday at Macau. I rarely ask to have my photograph taken with people I interview, but I couldn't resist and had to take one with the LCW.

I grew up watching the man when he was known as FIT LO in the TVB series Police Cadet. He was like, the AC Slater to Tony Leung's Zack Morris on that show.

Over the last decade, I've admired LCW because of his great work in Johnnie To films: all the 90s stuff and 2007's deceptively-deep Mad D...Read more
