come through, something ill, missing the ceiling

Reading the news and seeing stickups and killings, kidnappings, project buildings, drug dealings (cuz Nas' rap is compared to legitimized crap) on a daily basis is depressing enough.

The last thing we need is a swine flu epidemic.

Hope they get it under control in Mexico. Take care over there, all of you in Southern Cali....

I'm watching The Matrix right now. Ten years since this sci fi epic hit. We get great movies all the time, but a truly transcendent movie like The Matrix? Maybe once every five years. If we lucky.

In addition to introducing Hong Kong action (Yuen Wo Ping's martial arts choreogrphy and John Woo's gunplay) to mainstream Western cinema, The Matrix's story is also insanely deep, with elements of philosophy (free will vs fate. what is real?, etc), religion (Neo is essentially Jesus Christ), punk rock elements (fight the system, man against machine. Rage Against The Machine! Renegades of Funk) and some crazy sci fi Weird Science/Bill and Ted shit, all rolled up in a package of slick direction with great special effects (bullet time).

The Matrix was revolutionary then and it's still an amazing piece of work now.

Good point Miss Scarlett. I'm sure HK action, or something similar to it, has appeared in non-HK films before. I mean Tsui Hark made that shitty movie (Knock Off) with Jean Claude Van Damme and there was also The Big Hit (starring Marky Mark), both films were before The Matrix. There was also this film The Musketeer, it also came before The Matrix and had Yuen Wo Ping doing the action (they even stole a scene straight from Jet Li's Once Upon A Time in China), but again... 8 people saw that crap so it didn't do much. But The Matrix took it and introduced it to mainstream. Mortal Kombat was good though. Shang Tsung was awesome.
