Reflections on the 10th Anniversary

Time is such a strange commodity.  For only 2 weeks I had not been writing my blog, it feels awfully long.  But what about the big 10th Anniversary that we are supposed to celebrate during these two days? The time has passed so fast that I begin to wonder what the heck have I done over the past 10 years.  Ah! Luckily, the first blessing I can count is my 10th wedding anniversary as my husband and I chose to get married in 1997.  At that time I had quit my job at Cable TV as the Deputy Controller of Channel Marketing so that my husband and I could tour the world and celebrate our wedding with our relatives who are scattered all over the world because they had emigrated to overseas almost a decade before 1997.  Why did they do that?  I guess they all had their different concerns at that time.  During any big festivals, my parents and my husband’s mum would appreciate us the most because we are the remaining few in prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" /Hong Kong to eat family dinner with them!  We now have most of our nieces and nephews scattered all over the world.  I even discovered that I have some nieces in China whom I was not aware of for many decades before!  I now enclose a few of their photos below.

Jiang Wei lives in Shandong Province of China.  She is now 19 years old.  The photo of me and her as a kid was taken around 13 years ago when I visited my home town ( Shandong province) for the first time.  

Helen is living in Vancouver right now.  She is 18 years old and will be entering university this year.

Kevin is living in Sydney.  He is 23 years old and will graduate from university this year.  There are some living in Calgary.  Some in San Francisco and some in Hong Kong too.  In theory, Jiang Wei, Helen and Kevin should all be in one big family but ironically, none of the above 3 young fellows had met each other before!  I am thinking that I can make a docu-drama based on this one day since they all look quite pretty (and handsome)!  Don’t you think so?!  Over the last 10 years, the other major leap that I have taken is the change of my career.  I have abandoned my long established marketing profession and is working hard to pursue a creative and production career.  Luckily, there is some recent encouragement as one of the short films that I made will be shown in the prestigious Fantasia Film Festival in Montreal on July 10 th and 14 th!

Over the past years, the other big blessing for me is the arrival of our 3 lovely sons (Wong Wong, Gum Ying and BB) to our family!  They give me and my hubby such a lovely home to come back to after work each day!

I know that at times when we are waiting for a reply, a test result…etc…. time can pass so painfully slowly, but actually I can already picture the 20 th Anniversary of Hong Kong returning to China coming up soon, before you realize it.
