What a long day!!!

I always enjoyed doing work and especially if I am working with friends and talented people.  Yesterday I started an early meeting with a long time friend and scriptwriter that I have now hired to do my latest project.  It's nice to work with people that you know well and have the relevant experience.  Immediately, they get your point.  I am not a good communicator, and I remember at one time I actually suspected myself of having dyslexia.  As a child I would stutter a bit when I spoke.  So having someone that knows what you want to say before you actually say it, is so nice.

I then joined up with my film partner Alan to meet this actress in Kowloon Tong.  To my surprise she was quite fit for the role.  She did not come to the first casting and I knew she was a suitable candidate, so we went out of our way to meet her yesterday.  It's a good thing that we did, because as of now she is probably the best candidate for the role (although, there are others).

After that, Alan and I decided to have a small production meeting near the Cinematheque where we were going to watch High Noon.  It was important that we hold the meeting.  My next film will be in production soon and it's important that we get all of the logistics out of the way.  I now understand that as a producer, it's important for me to strike a balance between the production and the director.  Haha... Alan if you are reading this, please don't get offended.  Just that my days as a producer have not been that long and the previous jobs I have had producing did not allow so much creative freedom anyways, so it's quite different from what we are doing now.  As an aspiring director myself, I can understand why my director would have so many requests, but I think as a director, you know that some of the requests will be turned down by the producer anyways, so it's important to ask for more than what is required.

As the last month and a half passed by, I have realized that my interaction with my production colleagues for my latest project have help me better realized how I can be better at what I do.  Producing is very different from directing, and in many ways it's less stressful, but than in some ways it's even more stressful.

After this project, I will be planning a new documentary project.  I would like to see if anyone in the community is interested in making a documentary.  If so please contact me and we can discuss how we can cooperate.  However, the project will probably start after February, for my current project will keep me busy for the next three-four months.  Drop me a line if you are interested.
