Hong Kong Actors Really Amazed Me

I had the pleasure this weekend of working with some amazing Hong Kong actors.

I was so impressed with their abilities, working in both English and Cantonese, and always bringing their "A game" to the work. It was truly a joy to come together with successful working actors who still are so open to learning more about their craft. It once again shows that art and the craft of acting is universal. It transcends boundaries like oceans and languages.

I only wish I could have continued on and on sharing tools and techniques that I so love to share. I always want there to be more time! I suppose it's because I could talk about acting and work with actors 24/7!

It reminds me how smart and curious actors are. It was such a pleasure to see one of you take your scene to such a higher level with just a small adjustment. It is joyous to see artists grow and also see how excited and supportive everyone there is for each other.

Actors who love what they do always want to grow and that is what I saw this last weekend.

I felt honored to be able to come and share with all of you and I look forward to seeing your work and watching you grow in your artistic endeavors. Thank you for your willingness to grow as artists.

I'm not an actor, but the art of performing has always fascinated me, both as a performer (music and dance) and as someone fascinated by the creative process. I would have loved to be a fly on the wall during your workshop to see how it all works, both from the perspective of the teacher and from that of the actor. I doubt I'll ever been an actor, but I also doubt I'll ever stop performing. :-)

From the comments of the participants of your workshop, it looks like kudos all around. I wish I'd have the chance to do something like this someday. As a writer, when I write characters, I have to channel that character for him/her (you'd be surprised how many of my characters are male) to come alive. I know when I'm doing a good job because my character starts reacting to situations and people in unexpected ways (from my "own" perspective) or has thoughts that totally surprise me and I wonder, where did that come from? It would be great to be able to expand that ability to have these characters speak through my writing. Some of them demand that I tell their story, they just won't give up, and I would like to be able to do a better job of it. Do you ever come to North Carolina with your open workshop? Would that help me work on this aspect of character creation?
