  • Late night Biking! Fanling to Shatin

For the first time in the last week or two, last night I found myself with no evening event I had to attend so I forced myself to leave work around 8pm and head home to drop off my stuff.  I had an itch to get some exercise (mostly cause I only went to the gym once this week and once the week before.  So I took the train up to Fanling to find my bicycle...

Didn't actually get there, and get riding til almost 10pm...  since it was dark, i couldn't go off and do anything adventurous like last time... so I kept it simple and just rode south down to Shatin -

ha, not so bad, only 13 miles (18km!)  the first part from Fanling to Taipo was a bit difficult because there are some parts through rural areas...  I stopped and took this cool pic of the KCR passing by:

    Next stop Lowu!

Rest of the ride was relatively uneventful...  got to Shatin by about 11:30,  so total ride was about 90 minutes not including the stop for photos.  My legs were quite gone by the time I locked my bike and walked to the station.  :-P

I think i may meet some people for hiking this weekend...  hopefully my legs will recover. ;-)

lmf - cheap bikes aren't that expensive.. like HK$500 or less.  if you go enough times, its worth it just to buy one and keep it locked up like i do...

Do you feel relatively safe at night biking by yourself?

Oh nice, I quite fancy the idea of riding at night, if only I could ride. it looks peaceful.

flagday - this route was 99 percent seperate bike paths, so no worry about cars, i had lights on too though.  the most important thing is a headlight in the really narrow paths in the middle of nowhere.

It must be much cooler to bike at night and with a lot less traffic.  Just so you're visible.  Some kids around here bike at night dressed in black.  I'd hate to kill one of them but I just might have to to teach them a lesson.
