Bill Clinton supports Obama|

Video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G3r6xvwPGcYWell thanks to my friends in Beijing, I've been at home sick the past few days. Nothing to worry about though because it allowed me to watch the Democratic National Convention and to finally see Obama officially announced as the Democratic National Candidate. If you've been reading this blog or know me in any way what so ever, you know I have been supporting Obama for quite some time now. But this weeks speeches by all the big wigs of the Democratic parties really hit it home for me because they finally showed the solidarity needed to take back the presidency and make the move to bring America back out of the hell it's been in for the past 8 years. The primary battle between Hilary Clinton and Obama and the divisions it caused within the party had me worried that there may some huge struggles in beating McCain and keeping the old guard out of the White House. But this weeks DNC showed that the Democratic party is fully behind Obama to take the presidency.

I was most impressed by Bill Clinton's unequivocal support for Obama in the speech above. He puts to rest all doubts that Obama may not be ready to lead as well as help bring all Hillary supporters to the forefront in this battle that needs to be won. Kudos to Bill for yet another great speech. Now we just have to make sure Obama wins this campaign. If you haven't registered to vote, do it now!! America has never needed your vote more.

I've seen some comments from some of you about my Obama blogs, saying things like "Why should I care? I'm not American". Well the fact is you should care because it is the stupid things that the American government has done in the past 8 years that affects every single person in this world. George Bush has lead America like a common gangster, he pushed his way into the White House and has done nothing but use fear to lead the country into chaos. Him and all his oil buddies are sitting pretty as their pockets get fatter while you, the global consumer pays for it all. Rising gas prices doesn't only affect those who drive, it affects the cost of everything from airplane tickets to the price of food. So let's keep hope alive and hope for the rest of the world that Barack Obama becomes president in November.

There are still wounds. But the Convention was a giant leap toward healing. Bill's speech was perfect. I think Hillary could have gone a little further, been more enthusiastic, but she's still stinging from defeat. Remember, she did not lose by much, the closest it's been for a long time. I was a Hillary supporter and said OK I will move my support to Obama and Biden, whom I don't like for personal reasons, is still a good VP choice (but he can really say some stupid things...). What clinched it was McCain's choice of a completely inexperienced woman for VP as if to say to us former Hillary supporters "There, all women are interchangeable, aren't they? So here you go. Now you can vote for a woman." What a frigging dimwit. That's an insult. And Gov. Palin actually INVOKES Ferraro and Clinton as if to say she's the heir apparent for those experienced tough and tested women? I was waiting for her to invoke Shirley Chisolm. Puh-leeze. I think that choice, if women are anything like me, will finally turn the tide of the disaffected Clinton supporters to favor the Obama-Biden ticket. As for the undecided Republican women? If you're pro-life then putting Palin on the ticket will make you vote McCain-Palin. If you're a Republican soccer mom...sorry, but women will NOT support another soccer mom for President. Sheesh, they're smarter than that and also being a woman...well, we're a little catty and we want a strong woman who is way BETTER than us, not LIKE us. That's my entire marketing analysis at this time, and this opinion is NOT endorsed by either party. lol Soooo..... GO OBAMA.

Hey Daniel, I agree with you that we ought not to be nonchalant about the US Presidency, because the world is so inter-connected these days that what one big country does can affect the world, especially a super-power country like the USA.

I watch some of the Convention on the TV. Interesting ! it's very different to the way we do it in the UK more glitz and glam but what sealed Obama was the appearence of Kennedy and Clinton. I hope he gets in and rids Ameica of Bush and his cronies as there is a real need for change , so i think Obama is the man for the job due to his background and his life experiences. America has lost a lot of face on the world front due to it's policies so maybe Obarma can heal the wounds and be the new face of America Am keeping my fingers crossed for him. I still can't believe around 80,000 people turn up to listen to him speak. That would only happen here if you were forced to go and the gates were locked.

America needs another Democrat, no doubt. Obama will have his hands full if he wins. Bush has left the country's ecology, economy, foreign policy and pretty much everything else in ruins. He should be impeached, removed and jailed for what he's done! Now more than ever America as one of the most powerful nations in the world needs someone who will put personal gain on hold and actually use his brain. America's become a laughing stock for us Europeans, but I have hopes for Obama.

I can not wait until Obama gets in office so we can straighten out some of this mess! I know it's going to take a long time for us to undo everything Bush has done but it will be a start and I am praying for Obama to win. I know psychic Sylvia Browne said a while back that he'd win. I hope she is right. I was watching the DNC too here in Kentucky and I can't wait! I mean as far as I am concerned, I believe Al Gore won the first election but I couldn't believe Bush was voted in for another 8 years! I just hope they make him pay for the damage he's caused, but I don't hold my breath!

As a registered Independent voter I too have been watching the events very closely. Growing up in a family who is very Bush supportive wasn't easy. Unfortunately, you can never tell by the speeches given what the outcome will be. It matters if hey actually DO anything. Because honestly, are either side promising extremely different things for America? The same things that have been promised election after election? I don't want promises, I want action. But i must admit, I am happy that Obama and his wife can actually publicly speak without sounding stupid.

About candidate differences: I think the differernces are pretty drastic. McCain is of the "My way or the Highway" school of thinking (The Bush Way) and of a lineage of political powerbrokerage. Remember, the whole point of his vietnam story that he tells every chance he has is rooted in the fact that he was a priveledged child to begin with. Obama is much more worldly character from the mindset of a country for the people and by the people - like the constitution promised. Which, by the way, Obama was a constitutional lawyer, so he knows what the country is supposed to be about - and it's not a handful of powerbrokers who believe they are better than the rest of the world by birthright.

I was very impressed with Obama's acceptance speech. He did a very good job in reminding the nation that the election is about them and never about him. Generally, he is a better speaker than McCain. I feel strongly that Obama will be the next President especially now that McCain picked Palin, the Alaska governor for only two years, for his VP. He might think that the move would help him win some of the women voters but I beg to differ. He speaks of how Obama is inexperienced to be the next commander in chief but his own elected VP has no experience at all in foreign policy. I can only imagine what kind of administration McCain would bring to the oval office.

Hi Dan, I joined the U of O wushu club the fall after you graduated! Too bad I never met you. Indeed, Obama is a pretty good speaker. One thing though is that he's against drilling in the US. Isn't it sort of like hoping for lower gas prices by doing nothing? How can we impact the gas price while we're sitting idle at the mercy of foreign oil producing nations? I like Obama's ideas about alternative energy technology, we need that. How long do you think it will take to develop an alternative fuel and refine the technology to a level that will make it economically feasible to field in the market?? I'm all for a zero-emission non-gas car, something like a hydrogen fuel cell car maybe... but we need a short to medium term fix to tide us over until that kind of option is available, which is why I think we need greatly expanded oil drilling in the US. One thing thats hard for me to look past is Obama's support for late term and post birth abortion i.e. infanticide... Maybe I'm squimish, but there's no way I can agree with that.

Love this blog entry! I've had so many friends from outside America echo your sentiment about the importance of this US election to the entire world, and how vital it is that Barack Obama become the next US president. It's awesome to hear that, even though you don't live here, expats like you are fired up about things, seriously concerned about what's going down. I'm glad you found Bill Clinton's speech a home run. I know I sure did, and I loved Hillary's as well. I really thought she gave those deranged PUMAs the bitchslap they needed. I live in Kansas -- a state about as backwater hick Republican as they come -- and hosted a party to watch Obama's acceptance speech at the DNC that had almost 200 guests. Another party in my town was packed to the gills, as well. People are starting to wake up. Watching the really ugly attacks, the divisiveness, the total lack of reality at the RNC tonight, including Sarah Palin's speech, I was just convinced *that much more* that America is going to see through the condescending bullshit and make the right choice.

I want to encourage your active support of Obama. John McCain's (age 72) hasty choice for a vice presidential running mate is another example of his poor judgement. Watch the Republican National Convention reruns if you guys get a chance. I wasn't too pleased with the way some protestors decided to express themselves though. Made us liberals and activists look bad. But try to ignore that and listen to the speeches. It's amazing how little MCCain said. Or maybe it's just my 'me first' way of thinking that prevents me from seeing why I'm being unpatriotic for voting Obama. Sorry in advance for the political rant.
