    Here are some moments for you to be entertained :)

    Getting punched...

    Minutes before we start shooting one of the action scenes, I was taught a combination of punches, jabs, dodges and kicks, so I practiced them over and over as much as possible hoping to create muscle memory... enough to be able to carry out the actions with speed.

    Seconds before actually shooting, one of the dodges (i.e. bending forward and going under someone's punch was quickly changed to bending backward to avoid the attackers left hook)....

    well you can guess the result of that, when they shouted action and the adrenaline circulated my body, muscle memory finally kicked in and I bent forward instead... landing my face in perfect contact with the attackers left hook.

    Well, I can say now I've had my fair share of battle wounds! (And NO! that's not blush)



    Being superman at a drunken state – Flying into Walls

    You see since it's my first film and I'm neither a great actor nor a great martial artist, every little bit counts when it comes to making the film more believable... so I took the opportunity to do all the stunts myself... hm... not sure if this was such a great idea…

    In one of the action sequences while I am struggling with attacker 1 to get back my gun, attacker 2 comes from behind and kicks me so I end up flying into a sofa causing it to flip and falling onto the ground behind it.

    Ok... so it's not that complicated falling into a sofa to YOU because you probably grew up jumping on your bed and fighting your brother for the nicer pillow... well, I can't say my childhood was all the same.

    Anyway, that's not even the interesting part, the stuntmen who demonstrated the move made it look so easy, falling onto the padded ground behind the sofa, except nobody thought of the weight difference!

    Yes, you guessed it right! I flipped the sofa (after hitting my tail bone into some hard structure inside the sofa) and I fell onto the ground behind except my lighter weight meant that I would end up crashing into the wall too... As a result, a nicely sprained wrist. Can’t say that wasn't painful, especially after repeating the move a few times and hitting the wall consecutively.

    The rag doll rollercoaster (...in shooting the making of)

    Another scene involved me play fighting with wu jing - basically he teaches me some basic martial arts and we bond, almost like an interaction of a dance..

    Before being taught/ given an idea of what EXACTLY I was in for. Wu Jing decided to practice on me. He politely asks me to come forward... so in my head I figured he was about to teach me a defense move or something.

    Boy was I in for a surprise! I found myself, within seconds, facing the sky, breathing the cement ground, seeing the sky again and then back to the cement ground (kinda like being sucked into a blackhole in outter space). He was flipping me around like a rag doll in the air, except there were no safety precautions...

    It was absolutely hilarious and we all laughed about it!- I really hope they put it on the making of DVD when it comes out!

    So my advice is, go do an action film, and even 6 Flags will be baby work.


    Having said that though, I do feel safest with Wu Jing because he is the best fighter and he has the best control... at this point in time, even if he threw a punch a millimeter from my face/ side kicked me toward the temple, I wouldn’t flinch/ even blink.

    If only I was that good at fighting too... I guess another life lol

    By the dramatic tone and humorous style you wrote this article, I should have had a good laugh, but still, there's another part in me that says not to gloat over someone's misadventures, even if it's amusing. But hats off to you for being able to take all those "punishments" in a light-hearted manner, without any complaints.

    Wu Jing is just far too elusive on the web for the man in the street, especially when you're from overseas (and a passive one at that), to be able to catch him and ask him anything - apart from the overcrowded online fan chat that rarely happens.

    hahaha you are all so adorable, you should be laughing at me getting hit :P I actually found it rather amusing!
    The rolling an egg on the bruise technique actually worked though, I guess it wasn't an old wives tale afterall! lol

    Elhcay - the dancing part was partly choreographed party spontaneous I believe, it's something you'd probably like to ask Wu Jing instead, I was just the rag down being tossed and thrown around hahaha Fun Times! I will also definitely suggest the extras on the DVD as you mentioned.

    so, any of the painful takes made it into the film? O.o
    Abt the rag doll...yeah, my sifu used to demonstrate EVERYTHING to the class using me...so I know what is it like ^^U

    your remark about drunken Superman made me thing of this. Decided to share...

    This man goes up to a bar located at the top of the Empire State Building in New York City and takes a seat at the bar. "This is a nice place. I've never been here before," he says to the guy next to him.

    "Oh, really?" the other replies. "It is a nice place. It's also a very special bar."

    "Why is that?" the first guy asks.

    "Well, do you see that painting on the far wall? That's an original Van Gogh, and this stool I'm sitting on was on the Titanic."

    "Gee, that's amazing!" says the first guy.

    "Not only that, but you see that window over there, fourth from the right? Well, the wind does strange things outside that window. If you jump out you'll fall about 50 feet before the wind catches you and you're pushed back up."

    "No way! That's impossible," the guy scoffs.

    "Not at all. Take a look," the man replies, and with that the walks over to the window and opens it. He climbs over the sill and falls out. He drops 10... 20...30...40... 50 feet, comes to a stop, and whoosh! He comes right back up and sails back through the window.

    "See? It's fun. You should try it," he says.

    "Try it?! I don't even believe I saw it!" the first man shouts.

    "It's easy. Watch, I'll do it again." And with that, he falls out the window again. He drops 10... 20... 30... 40... 50 feet, comes to a stop, and whoosh! He comes right back up and sails back through the window. "Give it a try. It's a blast," he says.

    "Well what the heck, I'll give it a try," the first man says, and proceeds to fall out the window. He falls 10... 20...30...40... 50...60...70...80...90...100 feet and Splat!! on the sidewalk.

    After watching this, the second man casually closes the window and heads back to the bar. The bartender arrives with a drink and says, "You know, Superman, you're a real jerk when you're drunk."

    Speaking of the DVD, hope to see a special edition that is packed full of features like audio commentary, making-of, constructing martial arts sequences, bloopers, deleted scenes (or an extended version of the movie if there were scenes that didn't make it to the theatrical cut), interviews, press conference, gala premieres...

    Sorry to hear about all these mishaps. Poor girl, you've suffered so much on the set. Hope you've healed completely, especially the tail bone, which could be very serious.

    Maybe I'll call the topic 曾经身痛. A part 2 with lighter aspects, like the rag doll scene, on the set would be a welcome.

    So the part in the trailer with you being thrown in the air and dancing was all spontaneous?

    Aww that sounds so fun!! And it's only your first movie!! AND it's with Wu Jing!!! Gawdddd...I'm not sure if it's gonna air in Malaysia but I'm dying to watch it. LoL!!

    Etchy might be too modest to tell you but he got kicked by Wu Jing ... THIRTEEN years ago! Back when we were all lowly college classmates in Berkeley, Wu Jing and his Beijing Wushu teammates were guests at the homes of one of our engineering professors/martial arts instructors. He wanted to show the team a newly designed super-hitech body and head armor that he had designed for Taekwondo competitions made from teflon that included sensors to measure when a Taekwondo competitor has been kicked hard enough to score a point.... so he made Etchy, back then a lowly engineering student, put the armor on and then asked Wu Jing and two or three other teammates to test it out by kicking Etchy in the stomach... Poor Etchy... after a while, as I was holding the camera, it was a flurry of kicks and punches on Etchy as Wu Jing and the rest of the team tried to figure out just how hard they needed to kick to each make the sensors work... each time it's kicked hard enough, a audible beep goes off and soon it was going BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP nonstop...

    Flash forward thirteen years later and he's still kickin' it hard... This is still one of the funniest memories I have from college...

    ouch, your tail bone? and your wrist? well that stinks to hear. hope ya feel better! I'm sure though at the least, working with Wu Jing, like you said, was definitely a good experience. Can't wait to see how it all turns out! =D
