I was debating for awhile whether or not to bring up this sensitive topic of the Edison Sex Scandal.  Being an artist myself, people always advice not to comment on it, but c'mon it has been headline news for 3 weeks now.  Even people like me who can't read chinese newspapers and usually don't keep up to date with all the gossip, have been exposed to this scandal since it has become not only an entertainment headline but a part of the daily news.

Regardless of what I personally think of how such a ordeal could've been avoided by the choices we make as individuals....my heart goes out to all that are involved especially the ones I know.

I have to comment on that it is always better to be responsible and  true to yourself and to those that you have influence on.  As much as the media has attacked me in the past, I really think it was because they really didn't know me, they only saw the outer shell that was created by my company at that time so it was easier for them target me.  What I am saying is that the media is not stupid, after awhile they know the real personalities of artists.  If you are a good person in their eyes, after they attack u for awhile they will help u rebuild, it' a vicious cycle.  However, when they feel that  they have been cheated and lied to as well, whether it be the company's packaging tactics or the artist themselves putting up a fake front....that's when they are really harsh.

All I hope for is, that the entertainment industry and the media, especially in HK, views and deals with this as a serious matter.  It is the habit of the industry to not comment on and quickly brush off any bad news, but I feel there are so many unhealthy issues and ways of thinking in today's society.  Instead of opening discussing how wrong it might be, these topics, actions, or situations are known but eveyone seems to turn their head to it.

It' s still all quite bizarre to me.  For example, in the States, if u saw a parent hitting a child a few times in public, it is mot likely someone will go up to the parent and say something.  If it's in Asia, most likely we just turn our heads.  The cultural ways of thinking and logic of people in Asia are so different, I am still struggling to learn and understand it.

Anyways, I am curious to hear the opinions of everyone on this topic and I hope the media and the big brothers and sisters of the entertainment industry can also offer some words of advice and comfort to those not only directly involved but also the fans and public.

Lastly,  I do believe in second chances since life is about experiences, making mistakes, and learning from them...besides, I am still living with a shadow of my past mistake and counting on those that are willing to give me a second chance...as a public figure I do believe that we have to accept the responsibility that our words and actions are heard and watched by more than the common individual.  However, we are not saints but human beings as well, so we will make mistakes, some more than others.  The most important thing is to learn and grow from it , whether it be that you are the actual person involved,a fan, a friend,or just a bystander. Everything happens for a reason, so it's up to us as individuals to make the most of it...

My General Advice:  I am not going to be all goody goody and preach how one shouldn't involve oneself in this sort of thing.  People are going to continue to be curious and do it so I am just going to give some advice on how not to regret it. The advice is more for girls, however I do not exclude guys...the society we live in still comes harder down on girls then guy this sort of thing so I apologize for my bias....

It's okay to be curious about taking sexual pictures and videos, especially with the understanding that you rather have your boyfriend looking at you instead of other women...but  1st:  It's best if u are the only one that keeps the photos, especially the graphic ones, no matter how much you're in love or lust, relationships change so u gotta protect yourselves 2nd: If you're going to trust someone u love with them, take a good look at the pictures that have been taken first, and delete the not so attractive ones.  Also, being sexy in photos doesn't  mean u gotta graphically expose your private parts, but if u want to get that explicit, it's best if it's without your face in it...it doesn't matter what the guy says or wants at that moment, boys will be boys and there is a higher percentage that they will show at least one or two friends especially if you break up or it was just a fling...so if you're going to share the pics, make sure u look smokin' hot!! (this goes for the boys too)

And to the guys...if u happen to partake in something like this, remember to at least have common respect for women, think of your mother or sister...remember to keep the promises that you made, and respect the trust that the other individual had in u to keep it private, be smart about where u keep these videos/pics (this is to the girls as well).

There is a thing called Ying Guo"....I think the closest translation is "What goes around comes around" or karma, so everything that you do in life, try to respect yourself and those around you...

Hi Anya,  Thanks for writing this blog.  Yes, we must share our experience with our fellow girlfriends (and guy friends), especially with those who are younger than us, not because we want to lecture them but out of our genuine care and love for them.  Your views make me understand you more beyond your pretty face and I like you even more than I already did before!  If you are interested in my views about the sex photos, you may check out a recent blog that Ive written about it.  Blessings to everyone who is working in the entertainment and media industry.

    Anya,

You are quite right about the karma bit. There definitely is Ying Guo (in Mandarin) or Yun Gor (in Cantonese).

Having been a Buddhist for many years so I know what it means.

Originally all karma (including us by the way - our family bloodline; the body we currently inherit) is like that of a seed. But what grows afterwards is what we actually do with it.

The Buddhist belief about karma of Cause and Effect is that it is like that of a seed. The seed is the Cause. Planted in the soil and given suitable conditions like light and water and air it has an Effect. And the Effect is the fruit. It is similar to the English saying 'We reap what we sow'.

Most people think 'Ah, its only going to be a fruit we get at the end of the day through this seed that we plant'. The answer is no.....If you think about it, if you plant a seed, what really happens? What do you get?

    You get a tree!

This is the simplest explanation given by my Buddhist master. People tend to think karma has only has one cause, not realising it has multiple effects. Hence the Buddhist teachings of the importance of purity, kindness and sincerity of mind. That is why we have to be so careful with how we approach our life. Sadly for Edison and the girls, something happened between them. And what was for them a moment of temptation, has now become maybe a lifetime of suffering.

You have to understand, not all Buddhist teachings/teachers believe marriage is bad. Some like my master believe it is good, important and natural to have companionship, because both parties can grow together spiritually, and share a common interest to further their spiritual quests in life/increase their spiritual awareness/consciousness. When they have children it means also the kids benefit too from strong ethics and a strong family bond. The only question that remains is the issue of faithfulness. With married lay Buddhists, sexual relations are allowed to only be a one-to-one person basis, - multiple relations are not allowed.

Despite all the parodied songs about the KY lubricants, this scandal has not only gone on for too long but people have grown tired of it.  I also want that Edison Chen t-shirt.  It may be mean but the taglines are funny.

Wow, I really didn't know much about it until now. So he's bowing out of entertainment all together? In my opinion, that's probably not necessary. The whole thing sounds like an unfortunate mistake (he definitely picked the wrong computer repair place), perhaps everyone shouldn't be beating themselves up over this so much. I remember when Jesse Jackson got caught having an affair here in the U.S. He bowed out of the public life too, but it was more understandable because he was cheating on his wife and it looked to people like he was just another selfish, narcisistic, egotistical prick who needed to get off (even though I still sort of like Jesse Jackson, but that sort of thing is always going to look bad). Though I can also understand that Chinese culture is different and notions of shame and humiliation are treated much more seriously there. I myself think the whole world should treat sex and sexuality more like the countries on mainland Europe (France, Germany, Italy, Holland, Sweden..). Sex and nudity is no big deal there. They laugh about how "serious" it's regarded here in the States and elsewhere. God I wish I could move there.

Well, brushing off bad news is very much in Hong Kong.  And you are very brave to comment on the Edison sex scandal as you are in the entertainment business.  It wouldn't be too bad if this happened in the US - look at Paris Hilton's sex scandal.

It was good to see Edison coming out today in the press conference in Kowloon.  What he probably should have done was tokeep the images private on a flash drive or external hard disc (I also keep sensitive material or my serious photographic work away from my main laptop in case the same thing happened to Edison).  There are a lot of DIGITAL THEIF AROUND, especially in Asia.  Basically the photos were belonged to Edison and he owns the copyright of the photos regardless of the subject matter - someone has stolen his photos and spread them with VERY BAD motives.

Let's hope he is learning and tell the kids what he did was kind of wrong and set an example (as he said in the press con.)

I don't think he is a bad guy, just wasn't thinking straight of how he handled such sensitive materials.

Let's hope the press is giving the matter a rest.    Also, let's hope the HK police force is not so big headed about how easy to catch the people who spread the photos - the HK police handled this matter very badly as well.

i love your advise...those are very constructive words!
i think what has happened cannot be changed, and what were exposed cannot be reversed...so the next big step is to mend what is broken, by standing up from where they fell down...it won't be easy, especially as public figures who are constantly in the limelight, but it is important to show to the fans and supporters that as a role model, they are responsible for their actions; won't do any good if they keep on hiding or avoiding...face it and get on with life...

hi thanks for the msg, on myspace. I was happy to received it. I understand that as an artist, one shouldn't really voice their opinions too much regarding EDC's scandal, especially in Asia (how bias), but you've done a good job and it was well written, so i pretty much agree with you. Girls need to protect themselves more no matter how in love or lust they are! And guys need to respect their former or current GFs, think about your sisters and mother. Artists are after all human beings, they make mistakes, forgive and forget just like if they were just "normal" people. Most important thing is to learn from your mistakes!

Well said Anya!!! I admire your bold & truthfulness. I agreed that whether we choose to ignore the news, it's there. I told my friends that what people do in the privacy of their home is no one business and it's sad that things get so out of hand but I choose to still respect the party that involve and their choices.
I admires these actresses talents and I hope that people won't look past that. Thank you for blog this!!!

    well written!
i've blogged several times on this whole EDC scandal as well...
it's too bad- but seriously, i think we should all just move on (it's been THREE WEEKS, into the 4th now!) and let them live their lives. poor EDC... i hope he doesn't get hit on by the mafia! there are rumours that gangsters are waiting on him in HK to kill him (b/c of all the money lost to the triads and company?)... =0

I agree with your comments.  It's unfortunate, but celebrities have to be extra careful of what they do because everyone is always watching them, what they say, what they do, what they wear, etc... and the media just magnifies it!

From what I've been told, those photos were taken in the past anyway, but Edison should have been more careful with them.

Hopefully this will all fade away as people forget.

BTW, can't imagine you making a past mistake!  Best thoughts that you can make amends and move on. :)

wow,  i really agree with your POV.    this stuff doesn't just happen in a vacuum...

And I agree pretending like this stuff wasn't going on and sweeping it under the rug is an impossible (and absurd) scenario... ("please don't look at or discuss that giant elephant in the room")

I disagree with the thought that some have mentioned that no one did anything that anyone else should be judgmental about...  inadvertently letting the whole world know you are a semi-pro p0rn producer is something that people (like your corporate sponsors) may judge unkindly..  and that IS well within their rights...

Those photos are not meant to be seen by the public. I think anyone that takes a moment to think about it would understand that. I don't think that anyone should be waving their fingers at any of the artists like they did anything wrong. They're all adults and those pics were taken in private. Yea...Edison should've been more careful. Why he wouldn't think twice about giving his laptop to just any technician to fix beats me. If there is anybody to blame in this incident is whoever stole those pics.

I do think they've gone on long enough in the news about it. I feel sorry for everyone involved. I haven't really kept up with this news, but you pick up a lot of stuff from peoples blogs here. I read from someone's blog that Edison's had to go into hiding. It's a real shame. While I don't think he's a great actor, he did make it into Hollywood, and that's something most Asian actors haven't been able to do, and I thought he might get more chances to do Hollywood work, which would have been really cool. I also read that he's been dropped from quite a few projects, which shows how much Asia doesn't give artists chances. At least some Hollywood productions stick by their artists and let them stay with them.

I don't have any advice. I can't give advice. But even if I feel strongly about something in the media, I get over it after a few weeks and don't really care eventually.

Most celebrities get past scandals. Hopefully Edison and the ladies involved will too.
