The Hong Kong International Film Festival Society (HKIFFS) held the Opening Ceremony of Summer International Film Festival (SIFF) 2012 at The Grand Cinema on 14 August 2012.

The festival opened with GF*BF, and director Yang Ya-Che and star-studded leading cast, including Gwei Lun-Mei, Joseph Chang and Rhydian Vaughan, all attended the ceremony and cocktail reception before the international premiere of the film. At the screening, the director and cast met the audience and joined a Q&A session.

Reminiscent of the refreshing youthful spirit of the critical and box office hit, You Are the Apple of My Eye (Opening Film, SIFF 2011), GF*BF portrays more complex relationships set against 30 years of drastic social change in Taiwan. It snared three prizes at the Taipei Film Festival in July, namely Best Actor for Joseph CHANG, Best Supporting Actor for CHANG Shu-Hao, and the Press Award.

"Last year we were the first in Hong Kong to show You Are the Apple of My Eye, and the film went on to become the talk of the town," said LI Cheuk-to, Artist Director of the HKIFFS. 《女朋友。男朋友》絲毫不失《那些年，我們一起追的女孩》（夏日國際電影節2011開幕電影）的青春氣息，橫跨台灣三十年歷史，呈現更立體更複雜的 男女關係。此片剛於七月的台北電影節一舉拿下三項大獎，包括張孝全榮最佳男演員，張書豪勇奪最佳男配角獎，影片則獲媒體推薦獎。
