Childhood Thoughts Adult Thoughts – A New Series

I love photography, because it forces me to be more appreciative of my surroundings. I walk through life with my eyes wide open. When I’m out on the streets taking pictures, I throw on a wider lens, muster up all the courage I can, strategize as quickly as possible, get over my own inhibitions, and walk up to a person and snap their picture. Then I keep walking without looking back. It’s a very challenging and therapeutic process. I love it. I feel that by using my camera as often as I do, I am growing a third eye… I see more things and find mundane stuff fascinating.

I become a child again.

Do you remember being a child? Did you keep yourself busy with barbies or legos? Did you get incredibly upset like the world is going to end if you don’t get that popsicle at the grocery store? Were you someone who fought with all your might to resist having to go to bed, just so you can enjoy a few more moments of being awake and conscious?

Think about it. Kids find companionship with stuffed animals or their own shadows. They can easily grow ambition and take risks in the unknown.

They can savor every single moment.

And they will reflect on that moment.

Watch and learn!

So therefore, I would like to share with you my appreciation of “things” today.

When I went to visit my parents at the hospital a few weeks back, I took home some things that help heal a person. But only physically…

My aunt in Belgium owns a Pearl jewelry store. They handcraft their pieces, and she gave me some to love and enjoy.

What would we be without those daily glasses of water every day?

Or perhaps you prefer drinking out of goblets?

And my favorite kind of spoon. And who would I be if I didn’t have chopsticks in my life?

And here’s a very special ring. My cousin Jenni and I were both about to graduate from college when we walked around campus. The newest fad was to get those shiny nice and expensive class rings, as an expression of who you have become, representing the interests, events, the sports, any recognition. The perfect tribute to you. I think that’s a very wonderful idea.

However, Jenni and I were hella broke. So we went to a little outdoor booth at the campus market and got these matching rings for ten bucks. Not to commemorate any raunchiness, but to recognize 4 years of self-discovery. And also to make people laugh. ☺
