  • I dream therefore I am

I'm a dreamer.Always had, have and always will. I dream of doing great things, big things wonderful things that affect others. But as much courage as I've always had to dare to dream, I was also told bitterly by cynics,by older folks NOT to dream. Before I got to telling them, they dismissed me as naive, young and silly. Since I was a little girl, I dreamed dreamed dreamed of painting a colourless world bursting with rainbows. In my world, nobody got hurt, nobody got hungry and when people were sad, they laughed afterwards. Every fall was meant for a step upwards and every student a teacher later. However at a time when I was wide eyed and starry, suddenly one day the very light in me got snuffed out. For a long time I spiralled back and forth freefalling into this crevice, this unspeakable spectrum where it shone many different reflectors, like a prism. I was a prisoner in this prism. Outside it was reflecting light,it was a solid figure, but inside this prism was really an illusion. A vacumn, nothing. In that period,I became strangled and imprisoned. When the world moved, and people flitted by, I watched like a trapped moth with clipped wings. Cannot fly.

And then I saw glimpses of the sun when I discovered the first tinge of her sun baked rays. Hope grew, and so did passion. In that passion, the dreamer came back in fragmented forms. Slowly,I became the spectre and then with gusto I felt willpower seeping through my soul like an ignited engine. It's laughable to the jaded world that I have this idealistic dream, or dreams of rising above the mundane mediocrity and trying to change it. Change the world, uttered the voice in my head. Paint those rainbows u always wanted.

That is why I still squeal like a pig, jump and dance when it drizzles. Summer rain. Run run run in the beach, be free, be whole,be u.Too many restrictions, rules and codes we adhere to. We don't need a Mr Hyde, because we don't have to be Dr Jekyll. We can be US. Not plastic fantastics,or perfect clones of imagined standards.

I had all these talks with the good people and team supporting my work. "Protect yourself" they say, "You have this very easy loophole of falling into the dark ditches when u don't wear an armour." But who was I supposed to be then, if not myself?

"Too trusting" they say. That is ironic. I don't think I even know that word, all I do know is to Do the right thing, and try my very best to always do it. Otherwise dreams will always be but dreams.

Some of u guys must be wondering if I actually have an affinity or like kids. Actually I've always been dreadfully scared of them. I don't talk the crazy cheesy kiddy language most adults do, nor do I make cutsy faces. I'm like " yo dude,be quiet or u'll disturb me", even when the kid bawls, I'd think of an equal transaction to solve this. " look stud, either u keep quiet and let me listen to the preacher speak or U don't get to play with my cellphone."

    It usually works.

    :)

As for abused kids. It's sad because they will never be the same again and even through the entire path in their adulthood, they are never the same. So, my dream is to protect even 1,2,or 10.

    I dream therefore I am.

The reason why I am so convinced this works is because.....I have been on this path myself and have seen the results...and I reckon for me they do work! Over time I realised that my move to HK wasn't coincidental....but something that I had worked hard for. My move was the fruit....of the accumulative effects of years of hard work and study. It wasn't my intention to do so, but it was something I realised that developed in its own. If you think, that for the most part of the last 7 years all I was always preoccupied with was solving 'other people's problems' on a daily basis, giving them a piece of my own time, do you not think such actions has a recurring effect on my own life? Of course it would! How else it could be? Thus I realised this is what forms of the basis of luck....that it is indeed self created. When it is said 'You reap what you sow' it is indeed true.....because so-called 'luck' is all created by ones own actions. You create your own luck through what you do. And one's fate.....is thus the accumulation of all the actions that one has created in their entire life.

That said do not do things simply because you want to create luck/merit for yourself....that defeats the whole purpose of giving. To give fully it must come from a place where you truly truly are not looking for any reward/return....but looking genuinely at literally 'giving it' away for the benefit of others. Only when you are true to yourself in this manner, can the universe be true to you.

    Lydia,

Hahaha........now that is very funny! I wasn't expecting you to say that! ;)

I tell you that over the years the more I've discovered about myself and the world around me, the more the mystery has deepened about life (for me). And one of those things I've discovered is, there are at many times no coincidences. :) We may think there are coincidences with what has happened with events in our life, but really the universe and our life is working in tandem......working in synchronicity. And as I've gotten older the more I've discovered that this gets more and more obvious. And it's not just me who believes in sychronicity, but friends also. Friends I know also say this.

As I'd said before if you work hard and proper in your life and you do not cheat, you will get your 'luck' or so-called just rewards. The key we've found is to fully believe in the process, have faith in, and trust the universe, but also to let go of the outcome at the same time and not think about it. This may sound a bit difficult but actually its very easy. Its a bit like rowing a boat. Everybody knows a boat can get us from A to B on waters and that the only way you can get around by sea is to row that paddle yourself. If you don't paddle the boat, no one else will. So the saying goes, row the boat, work hard in your life as you ought to and let the current and waves carry to wherever it takes you. This is what is meant by trusting the universe/God....they are that little bit of energy, the waves underneath the boat, that propel you that bit further along should you believe in them. Fully trust in them that everything will work out fine. Simply do the best that you can do and be the best that you can be and don't think about the results you end up with.

If the end results do work out for you then that's fine....that's great for everyone! But if it didn't would one sulk about it? Of course not. one wouldn't because, one would have discovered we worked hard for it anyway and this was the result. Would we feel guilty about this? Nope, quite the contrary. We would have to actually let it go because we saw we tried, we failed and just have to accept because it wasn't meant to be.

Sometimes in life we have to accept failure. But even then failure itself can be good for us and isn't necessarily all bad. Because apart from relieving us of certain choices/decisions we may not want to have at the time, failure can be a blessing in disguise. For those of us who are achievers/performers by nature, often it can propel those of us who hate to lose onto another plateau. And in this sense failure if used correctly, is a tool for spiritual growth (as mentioned by some books I'd read).

When I first moved to HK nearly two years ago I never expected my life to be turned right round in such a way that things really did work in my favour. At the time I was working almost 6 days a week, responsible for the management and running of, our family business in London. In the mornings I'd be taking calls talking and liasing with clients - sometimes multitasking several things at the same time! And in the afternoon I'd be doing other things like checking stock, talking to suppliers and what not.

Being a British born bloke I'd always dreamed of living in HK and the final decision to move from London was a shock initially. I'd never in my life thought it would happen. But it did and we felt, moving here was the best thing to have happened to me and my family.  Everything I/we have ever wanted is all here in HK and all I can say is that we feel blessed with what had happened, and are incredibly grateful to all our friends and family both physical and those spiritual who have passed away. Without their support, I don't think we could've done this.

Going back to this thing of rowing the boat ie. attending to doing things ourselves, there is one other thing I want to say. Even if you are idle don't just sit there and do nothing about things. Do something useful/purposeful with your life that has been given whether it be celebrating someone's birthday, visiting an old friend, having a quiet prayer, yoga, inner reflection/contemplation etc....this is what is meant by rowing the boat. We know nothing in life comes for free, but if we do nothing at all, nothing positive will ever come out of it. So its important for us to remain positive. And the only way that we can bring positivity into our life is to stop thinking negative and reflect positivity in return. ie. the prism effect. If each of us acts compassionately, responsibly and purposefully towards ourselves and each other, then like a prism the light and wisdom of life will enter into us, guide us and our life will change and align itself not only with what we've always wanted, but that of the cosmos. And when that happens, things really do change.

I think dreams are very important. Simply because......we live in a dream world. Everything around us like this computer we are using to the AnD site we are all using to the World Wide Web, phone boxes and lines even the clothes we wear was first designed by someone in their minds. Without dreams we could not travel, talk long distance, create objects or live in buildings. Hence dreams are very important to our physical makeup.

To children, dreams are especially important because it forms the basis of their future development and the basis of their future character. For one to 'snuff out' their dream is completely detrimental not only to their future, but really to their confidence, their being and in the overall way they think and live throughout their lives. I could dare say most people who have failed to succeed in life was not due to the level of their skills. Rather it was due to the level of confidence they had in themselves, how far they believed it will take them and how far they trusted themselves to go through that process.

That is why I have never talked down on anyone in my life, (hate those who do), and never underestimate anyone especially those who 'daydream'. Because dreamers are actually very powerful individuals who more than often end up becoming inventors, designers, manufacturers or scientists...and changing the world around us. Just look at what the inventor James Dyson did with his Bagless Vacuum. Despite the difficulty involved he spent years on the project (and succeeded) when most people would have given it a miss and simply given up. Even then, someone with such one-mindedness and dedication to a task is worthy of learning from...for all of us. Just because something has not been thought of doesn't mean it cannot work and cannot exist. That said it takes guts to become an inventor.

Talking of prisms you know Lydia I had an epiphany the other day. Prisms as we know, are blocks of crystals which reflect light, and light can only travel through substances which are unadulterated and pure. Me and my dad had been talking about life, spiritualism and existence lately (he'd been reading some books on the subject) and we came to a realisation that actually we are all prisms (a reflection of truth), except that most of us have yet to realise we are such a thing and to buff/polish it to realise our full maximum potentials. Even a thing such as our brain we are probably barely using 1/10th its true capability. My dad has been talking about the issue of fate and been discussing what is it exactly? Well fate, according to his new findings, its accumulated karma. That is, like the saying 'We are what we eat' which determines the size of our physical body, karma is the total of what we have done throughout our lifetimes. He puts it another way that basically, we are eating our own sh*t.

The saying goes that until we address our own problems, until we do things in a right way we will always come across problems. You see if you do things right in your life, your life will literally transform and turn itself around. The problem most people have in our world today is that they don't often see the problems of the world as their own. They see problems as other peoples issues and barely blame or even get responsible about it themselves. That's why we have a culture of suing and counter-suing in say the US, because people are too lazy, too unappreciative  (and greedy) to admit its their own fault.

I've always said before, society is created from people, people are created from families, and families are created from and held together by love, honesty, trust and commitment. My belief is if you don't look after your life and your patch of life as has been given to you, don't expect God to do it either. Because opportunities in life are not given. They are created. And they truly are, created from the result of our actions. For life is really a mirror. If you live a life of cheating others out of money, being dishonest and hurting others feelings ie. divorce at the first sign of hardship/something you think better round the corner, the result you get is you'll live a broken life, have a terrible family life/marriage and be called a swindler. But if you live a life abiding in truth, abiding in love, commitment and thankfulness ie. the law of causality, you will live a happy, gracious and peaceful life...because like attracts like and the saying goes because you are positive, more will be given to you. Its like between a good taxi driver and bad taxi driver. Would you tip a driver who gets you to your destination quicker, or tip one who wastes your time and actually lengthens your time of travel? Most of us would tip the harder-working person....and the same goes for the universe. Its really that simple.

I must admit we are complex beings. Or rather, we are multi-dimensional beings working on multi-dimensional levels. :)

*bows down* Nice blog and thoughts Lydia. I agree with you about Kids, I'm not a child person, but the idea of cruelty destroying their innocence angers me. I hope you get your dreams :)

I agree dear, that its best way to live.

Sure its risky as hell, but why lie to yourself, right? The world isn't always filled with evil people and sometimes even those so called "evil" people won't even know how to respond to a kind or even sincere comment.

Nonetheless, whos to say they can take your dreams away? If anything, thats always something someone will have and no one can say a damn thing to take it away if you firmly believe in it.

Actions speak much louder than words and really, if it were not for the dreamers, we wouldn't have people to admire or believe in, right? =)

all you can do is what you feel in your heart is right...as for kids and abuse, save now... face later.. is my old motto... pull them to safty, help them to cope.. some do remarkably well as adults some are not so lucky

I hear ya about being "too trusting".  I also tend to wear my heart on my sleeve, and can't help that I tend to feel things very intensely.  Pair that with a highly analytical brain, and I'm a mess ;)  People try to tell me to "stop being so sensitive," etc, but I can't change what I am.  Maybe the world needs to get a little less colder instead...
