Alive not Dead and Diesel Party

Diesel has always been one of my favorite brands. Why? Because the brand is always supporting underground cultures where the trends begin. Check this website supported by Diesel: superfuture.com (Also check the forums 'superfuture supertalk'- they're a great source of travel info.)

Anyway, Diesel publishes a lifestyle magazine called Brave and they were having a party with a retrospective exhibition of the renowned Hong Kong photographer Wing Shya. Following that, there would be a performance by local hip-hop group 24 Herbs followed by another performance by Dan the Automator. The event was also supported by this website Yo!

 The party kicked off with a preview of Wing Shya's exhibition "The Archives Unlocked".  Wing Shya is one of my photographic idols and I was so honored that some of my piddly-wink market photos shared the same exhibition space as a few of his awesome shots.

Anyway, I had a chance to say hello to Wing Shya and he introduced me to a very groovy guy wearing a fedora, skinny jeans. It was his stylist. Often stylists are responsible for the look and feel of a photo- so they are  almost as important as the photographer!  Wing Shya asked if I wanted to get a pic with his stylist and he actually took my camera and  took this photo with it:

Unfortunately, my lens was a fixed 50mm lens and it was a cheapo. I only bought it because the aperture opens to 1.8, but it's proved to be very difficult to get good party pics with it. Wing Shya didn't even know how to use my crappy Canon. He was like- "How do put the flash on?"

Anyway, there were mobs of paparazzi outside of 20 Queens Road Central where the exhibition and party was being held. It's no wonder because every hip and happening local celeb was in attendance. When I got the press release, there was an entire paragraph which rattled off the names of all the celebs that were there. The crowd was definetly 'fashion forward'. These were some of the trends I spotted:

1.Nerd/ Vintage Glasses. Good places to find these kind of glasses would be- Temple Street, Ap Liu Street, Tin Hau, Sheung Wan and Shenzen:

Anyway after the exhibition, everyone migrated from the photography space upstairs to this huge empty white venue which was lit by some pink flouro lights. If I'm not mistaken, it used to be a Delifance!

At about 9:30, Terence Yin did a brief intro for local rap group 24 herbs and they brought down the house!

I was kind of mad because I was filming the performance and I had to keep the camera still so I couldn't dance. I would have been throwing my hands in the air like I just don't care, but I had to stand there perfectly still for the vid. Crap!
