Glued to the TV

I don't think I've ever watched the news so much... I've practically been glued to the TV watching all the reports on the earthquake and felt extremely emotional during the 3 minutes of silence at the beginning of the three days of national mourning...

At this moment the death toll stands at a terrifying number of41353 and another 32666 people are still missing...A big topic is the recovery of the traumatized kids...

Seeing the kids cry really breaks my heart... Over and over again I'm being amazed by the incredible rescue workers and medical staff... Here's a news article from yesterday's Shanghai Daily: Please pay special attention to the highlighted part!

A PREGNANT earthquake survivor has delivered a girl on the way to hospital in a Shanghai ambulance. "The driver of Shanghai ambulance GB7083 called headquarters in Guanyuan, saying that Niu Shanshan, a pregnant woman due in one week, had suffered a rupture and was going to deliver the baby soon. It was impossible to return to Qingchuan medical center, which had no capability for baby delivery, so they decided to drive as quickly as possible to another hospital.Medical staff in the ambulance told the army they were approaching, and all military vehicles moved to the side of the road. When the road was blocked by a broken-down 2-ton van, 20 soldiers lifted the van and moved it six meters with their bare hands."Every soldier has to sustain 100 kilograms. The only explanation is their strong will and care for the people," said Shanghai ambulance chief Gu Arong. Niu finally delivered a 3.115-kilogram girl on the way at 2:22pm, 53 minutes before arriving at Guangyuan hospital. Dr Qian Zhendong said Niu was lucky that she gave birth when the ambulance had reached the highway. "If it was on the mountain road, it could have been very dangerous," Gu said. "The baby stands for hope of Qingchuan people."

Isn't that incredible?!!! Here are more tear jerking stories on how people survived: -Trapped between two large stones and living on rainwater, Wang Youqun was rescued 195 hours after the quake from a temple in the city of Pengzhou. She was pulled free at 6:45 p.m. Tuesday, one of the most recently rescued survivors, the state-run Xinhua News Agency reported.-Ma Yuanjiang was pulled out of the debris of the Yingxiu Bay Hydropower Plant early Tuesday after 100 workerspounded through 10 slabs of concrete to reach him, Xinhua reported. Freed after 179 hours, he had a large wound in his right side, and a colleague told Xinhua he was in intensive care.-Peng Guohua, a miner, survived 170 hours by eating clean toilet paper and drinking his own urine, Xinhua said citing unidentified military sources. He was in stable condition.

Peng, 37, had been working in a lime pit 32 feet deep when the quake sealed him inside. Rescuers found and treated him Monday afternoon in a township of An Xian county, near the city of Mianyang.-Wang Chunbang was trapped in a crack near the entrance to a manganese mine and stayed alive by drinking his own urine until being saved 164 hours after the quake, Xinhua reported. He was in fair condition with dehydration after his rescue Monday morning in Qingchuan county.-Wang, 65, had been on his way home at the end of a shift when the mining pit collapsed in a landslide.
