My computer got attacked by a virus on Monday!!

It was so awful, cause there's like a million pop ups. My computer settings were altered, and I could not gain access to my C drive. Thankfully, my browser was still functioning fine, so I googled for some answers.

Conclusion? I got attacked by this mean thing called PC Privacy Cleaner.

Basically it is a spy ware that prompts you with exaggerated threats, then directing you to sites whereby you can purchase FAKE spy ware removers. A couple of sites suggested that I install Malware, which is a free for trial anti-Malware program.

I was elated when I recovered the basic functions of my PC. Then...

The trojans resurrected themselves upon rebooting!!

I was planning to blog about the TV series Calefare, but I am beyond annoyed right now.

    *SCREAM**!!

    *deep breath**********************

Wish me luck in my battle with the evil ones...

It also helps to run those cleaning programs in Safe Mode; I found it cleans better and more thoroughly than when I run them in normal Windows.

Wouldn't it be fun to tar and feather the people who invent that junk???

thank you darlings, but this particular virus is evolving faster than most anti-viruses are up to date. So most of the usual options don't work.

I'm still battling the evil, and since I'm reasonably disciplined in my backups, I might just succumb to my final resort. Reformatting. aRghZ~!!

oh man ... if i were there i could help you.  DON'T click on any of the popups or download anything they ask you to.

    ya, use avast! antivirus (http://www.avast.com/eng/download-avast-home.html).

    it's free and good.

also download this anti-spyware program: http://lavasoft.com/

run those programs and delete any viruses or spyware things they find.  if you can't delete, then quarantine.  then restart your system and do it again.  and again and again until they don't find anything.  it will take a while, at least half a day to sort it all out.

you should also look at backing up all your important documents.  and you should run the anti-virus and anti-spyware on your backup to make sure they aren't infected.

    good luck G!

Mine is Avast! It's free and pretty good, you do need to register but so far it's all free.

man... hope your computer gets better.  I know how frustrating it can be with viruses.  Try using norton and there are a few other programs that are free or I can give you if you need.  Msg. me if you need them!

Ah yeah, those guys. Like 'we found 1458 malware this and that on your hard drive' and ask you to click here. Always thought it was fishy.
