I've created a new website (
www.shenzhenphotos.com) where I will showcase my work of choice. The concept is simple: one photo per day. Eventually it will morph into something bigger with a portfolio, projects, etc. But learning website design, html, and css takes some time. Here are a few examples of the kind of shots that I'll be posting:

As you can see it's a bit of everything - snapshots around the great city of Shenzhen. But you'll notice I have a tendency towards portraits, night shots, and architecture.

I am super excited about a beach party I am organizing with my friends (& spinning as well). It'll be the first big beach party of the year here in Shenzhen. We did one last year, and despite only announcing the party one day in advance, got about 35 people (mostly good friends) to come and had the party of the summer. Despite the fact we lost several hundred yuan, it was all good. This time we are doing things a little different, that is, planning and putting the word out a month in advance. We've got a lot of our good friends to DJ, and it looks like attendance will be at least a hundred if not two. We'll be hooking up a slip n' slide down the sand dunes, yeah! The location of the beach party is a secret, but is owned by some really good local people whom I've really come to trust and admire over the years. If you are looking for a good beach party and a Shenzhen adventure, hop across the border and come join the fun! See the
facebook event page for more info.

PS: I'm also pretty happy with this flier which was a joint effort between me and two friends!

I am super excited to be having the Violent Jokes coming to Shenzhen next weekend. I've been running this DNB monthly for almost a year now, and this is the first time having a live band, as well as the first time having a gig in Shekou. I haven't seen the VJs perform yet, but from what I've heard, we'll be in for a special breed of music. and it's always nice to add some female vocals to the equation when the usual practice is a dude behind the decks. I am especially looking forward to the second set by their side project, Sushi Robot. Here's a description from Claudio, the keyboard/synth man:
"We use a mac with ableton live on it, connected to a digital mixer/controller. Simon triggers all loops and mash them up combining all sort of stuff, mixing and applying effects. I add a semi-analog synth which I modulate with d-beam (a cool visual
thingy, you move your hand in the air and it changes sound) and I
drive both keyboard and mic into a kaoss pad, resampling myself and
applying effects. It is quite cool result and a lot of fun."
Sounds pretty awesome huh? If you're looking for something to do on the 25th, come on over to Shekou and check out the live drum n' bass action!

Hong Kong's annual surf contest was held last November at the beautiful Tai Long Wan in Sai Kung. Being completely addicted to surfing, of course I could not pass it up. It was also a great chance to hike into the beach and camp out for a few nights. The weather was beautiful every day and the waves were pretty good too. All in all, another spectacular weekend at probably the most beautiful beach in South China.

I've been a member of
Flickr, a fantastic photo hosting and sharing community, for about 4 years now. In that time I've amassed about 5,000 images there. Flickr has a feature which determines your "
most interesting" photos based on views, comments, notes, favorites, etc. Some of the choices are a total surprise, and some are not at all. Here are my top five photos, as determined by Flickr. Click on the photo for more info and comments.
#1

Apparently people like pot.
#2

As much as I like this photo, not sure why/how it made #2.
#3

Rollerblading was by far my favorite sport, until I became a surfer several years ago...
#4

Another one from the Water Cube in Beijing!
#5

Tee-shirt in Guangzhou. There must be something about pot, hmmm...
There you have it, certainly not the best photos in the world, but the ones that have attracted the most attention on Flickr. For the rest of my most interesting photos on Flickr,

Cheers!
