Peaceful Warrior

Those of you who have not read the book The Way of the Peaceful WarriorI highly suggest that you watch this movie.  Obviously the book is much better like always, but I realize many just don't have the patience to read.  I felt the movie captured the book, quite well.  I for one have not had a chance to complete the book, but I know that it is a book that will be completed in my life.  This book, like The Celestine Prophesy, are two books that truly express the true meaning of life, and what we are really looking for in life.

Everyone always likes to say that they are doing things for a goal.  But, ultimately we all do things to be happy, not to complete the goal.  We think that the completion of the goal is what brings happiness.  On the contrary, happiness comes from within, peace comes from within.  Why do we always think that an object brings happiness.  We have people that tell us that we are happy when we succeed, or when we have a big house and a fancy car.  This is bullshit! You seriously choose to be happy when anything happens in your life.  Each and every person has control of this.

The other day I had my neighbor come over to my house, and like always she was troubled.  She wanted a new job, which would free up her time, and would be a more enjoyable job, but the job would pay less.  So I naturally asked her "What do you need money for?" To which she replied "So that I can buy a big house!" "Why do you want a big house?" I asked again, "So I can make more money!"  You see she kept on running in circles, and never came to the realization that she was running in circles.  What she ultimately wanted was happiness, and she was looking for happiness, with her car, her house, the size of her bank account, etc.  She is spending her whole life searching for happiness, and looking for it through materials.  But inside she is empty, and lost.  All she is left with is an addiction, one that requires her to buy more, and supersize everything.

I find this story very relevant to how we as a society run our lives.  Many will read this and say "Well I duh, I know happiness comes from within, but I love my house and my car :P."  We formulate attachments to these things, but really how many times do you wear your $200 shoes.  How, about how much time do you really spend enjoying your house?  The house that you spent so much time and effort paying for.  You see, we really just spend money or waste money, because we think we can buy happiness.  Is this an old cliche? Does the moral of this story sound redundant or like a ferry tale.  I guess it is all in your perception of life.  But know that you choose to be happy, sad, good, bad, evil, etc.  We really make the choice to do all these things.

If you think what I am saying to you is "Bull Shit." Then I want you to take a good hard look at your life, and everything in your life.  Does it feel empty when you are alone? Do you fear yourself? Does your Ego have the best of you, or do you have the best of your ego? You see everything that  you want is achieved in the state that you are in.  If you want to get a role in a movie, or get hired in a new job, it is all up to you.  Your state, your ability to be present determines your completion of your goal.  Just know that the moment you release any attachment to failure or completion, that is the moment that you will achieve what you truly desire.

I often times have clients who come to me to lose weight, and they try everything with their nutrition, their exercise, etc.  But, what they lack the ability to do is to look at their state, and be present with themselves.  They are always running from themselves, and are never happy with themselves, and they think that the goal is what will solve all of their problems.  The goal does not solve our problems, the state does.  The completion of the goal is not what feels so good, but the journey.  How can we be present for the journey?  This is where you reach happiness, and this is ultimately where you achieve the goal of life, Happiness/Peace.

Enjoy Life!
