Dream Role

As an actor, there's one question that's bound to come up at some point in your career.

"WHAT WOULD BE  YOUR DREAM ROLE?" The first time I got asked this question, I was at a loss for words. Fact is, it hadn't crossed my mind. It's not like I have choice now, if you know what I mean.

Let's face it, most actors don't really have a say in such matters. It's either you get a casting notice with a whole list of available roles from which you pick the ones you feel you'd have the best chances get clinching, or some casting director who knows you calls you in with a role he/she feels you ought to try out for.

And after you've been around awhile, you kinda know what kinda roles you're likely to land  and which are the kinda roles you won't. And why is that so, you wonder to yourself?

If one were in a positive frame of mind, one would probably think "Oh...that's cos I'm really good at  playing xxx-type characters, but I still need some work on my yyy and zzz-type."

This may well be good and true but...i kinda doubt it.  Maybe it's because it's in my nature to see the negative side of things more...i dun noe.  What i do know is, there's just too many factors that are absotively, posilutely beyond my control. So much so, i don't even wanna think about them anymore.

I'd just go into that audition room, do what I'm supposed to do, ask what I'm supposed to ask, then get my butt outta there and forget about it.

Now, I don't mean I can't be bothered with auditions or casting directors or getting call-backs. On the contrary, I put in my due preparations, try to dress the part, be on time, put on my best behaviour and all, but I know ...the minute I step into that audition, it's outta my hands.

Still, there's always this voice in my head that would berate me for all those little things I could have done better, not smiling enough, should have given a better self-intro, not relaxed enough, my tendency to slouch, too much eye contact...WTF! Things like this can drive a man insane!

So where was i?

Dream roles, that's right. That ONE role I really wanna do even if it kills me...

Tell you what. I'll think about it when I actually HAVE a choice.

To answer your 2nd question...No, I wouldn't lose. Hi there torpedogang. welcome to my blog :) In fact, I'd have everything to gain for the time and effort I put into each audition even if it's not the role itself. Truly, I rarely pass-up on auditions for which I meet the gender, age and physiological requirements. Certain times, I'd even turn up for those that I'm not apparently suited for...but that's another topic altogether. Anyways, I'll have to take note to sound less negative (or rather, more positive)in my future blog entries. But like I said in this entry, "...it's in my nature to see the negative side of things more..." Thanks for taking the time to comment. Drop by anytime :)

yup, i'm a pragmatist ;) and you're right... cos regret can haunt you for life, while rejections are often forgotten with each new opportunity that arise.
