"AXN Macau Xtreme Ep 6" - excerpt

For those of you who have never heard of AXN Macau Xtreme, it was a reality game show shot in Aug 2006 which combined elements of Fear Factor, The Amazing Race and Survivor, albeit on a smaller scale.

We started off with 8 contestants:

1) Ching -Taiwan

2) Marianne - Hong Kong

3) Michelle - Philipines

4) Naho - Japan

5) Alberto - Macau

6) Jonny - China

7) Min - Korea

8) Me - Singapore

We were split into 2 teams, with 2 guys and 2 gals each, and put through a series of group and individual challenges.  At the end of the 4th shoot-day (4th episode), 1 team was eliminated based on total points accumulated. Being on the winning team, we had the 5th day off, while they shot episode 5 with the eliminated team ( to all our surprise) going through 3 more challenges.

The video below is from episode 6.

So it was down to the the guys. At that point, I was thinking the viewership was sure to plummet now that the babes had all gone home. :P

My guess is the producers had similar concerns. In subsequent episodes, they played up the rivalry between us just a little with some creative editing, just  to add some 'spice'. But in reality, the situation was never as tense as they made it out to be. But that's 'reality' TV for you. :P

Eventually, Min from Korea nabbed the grand prize of USD$30,000. Jonny won a pair of return air tickets from Cathay Pacific for winning the trapeze event. Alberto scored a digital camera. And me...zilch :(

Well, that's life for ya. Win some, lose some. I'm just really thankful to have had the opportunity to be on the show and met all the wonderful people with whom I shared those few short days.

Oh yeah, the night before our flights home was the grand final of the Macau Fireworks Festival. The whole crew were invited to a BBQ buffet under the stars and dazzling fireworks display. We ate, we drank and we partied. I even got up on stage and sang Sam Hui's "Nan Mong Nei", thanks to our director Ludo :)

My one regret from the entire experience....I didn't get to play a single hand of anything at the casinos! Not 1 hand!!!!!
