Here's a feature on FM and DJ VIRMAN with the industry magazine R&R Radio & Records ( www.radioandrecords.com Article:A Part Of The Movement

Why DJ Virman became a part of FM:

Believing in a group or being down with a group is one thing, but actually becoming a member of group isn't a common move for a DJ. In 2006 after meeting the trio FM (a.k.a. The Far*East Movement), hearing their music and witnessing their stage show, KPWR (Power 106)/Los Angeles' DJ Virman officially joined the group. Their independent single "Lowridin" is a song that motivates me to turn up the volume for every time I hear it, and I love it.

The name of the group acknowledges their Asian heritage, yet this is by no means a novelty act. No, it's not common for a DJ to actually become a part of a group that he or she connects with. But after talking to Virman, his passion makes it easy to understand why he would want to be a part of this FarEast Movement. *

R&R:** Why did you get so deeply involved with FM? DJ V: Besides DJing at clubs and DJing on the radio I love to perform. I had my first experience on the "Chicken and Beer Tour" with Ludacris opening up [and mixing for] Knocturnal. Performing in front of thousands of people is amazing. After the tour stopped, I didn't get involved with any other shows for a while and I started aching to perform.I was meeting with other groups and independent artists and trying to do shows with them, but I realized it wasn't the same. Either they didn'thave experience with performing or we just didn't really connect. A couple of years passed and I decided maybe this isn't for me. I happened to run into their manager, he set up a meeting and they were like the nicest guys I ever met...very humble, respectful and really cool. I went to rehearsal and I was just amazed‹I was in awe. Their style is so different and they're not the average rappers, regardless of Asians or any race. **

R&R:*What exactly impressed you? *

DJ V:** Their style of rap, how they perform, the energy, their presence‹everything. It's like they didn't need to be developed. We started doing more shows and the chemistry was great. Our shows just started getting better, more organized‹not just because of me. From how we started til now, it's just amazing. We keep growing. **

R&R:You're a DJ, but now you're on the other side trying to get FM'ssong played. What do you say to DJs who are reluctant to play "Lowridin"because it doesn't sound like anything else out right now? **DJ V: The hook is catchy, it's up-tempo, the lyrics are sick and you could play it in the club, not just radio. For DJs, it's good to step outside of your box sometimes and support independent artists. You get these labels giving you records, but sometimes if you want to be that different DJ, you gotta step out and get creative. That's what these guys did with this record. I tell any DJ, from DJ to DJ, just give it an ear and listen to it as a listener.

Big thank you to Darnella!
