I was flipping channels and happened upon another classic HK 'Golden Age'  picture that I hadn't seen before...   I could tell right away that it was an early 90's Wong Jing film...  Turns out it was 1993's 'Boys Are Easy' (追男仔)

But what I was amazed about was how many big names were in this:

Yes thats right,  Bridgette Lin, Maggie Cheung, Chingmy Yau, Tony Leung Ka-Fei, Jacky Cheung and believe it or not, a very young Ekin Cheung (pre-Y&D hair) in what is probably his second or third movie..

Like most of these films,  the plot is relatively cliched and ultimately not very memorable - a father pretends to have cancer to encourage his three daughters to get married,  they find fake boyfriends who they ultimately end up falling for... (of course)

in this case (especially 15 years later), the entertaining part isn't the plot,  but its seeing these big name actors (several of whom haven't done an HK movie in years) working together...

ps - in case you didn't know, Maggie Cheung was way HOT in 1993. :-P

As good as the supercast of "Days of Being Wild" with early roles for Leslie Cheung, Maggie Cheung, Carina Lau, Andy Lau, Jacky Cheung and (uncredited) Tony Leung Chiu-Wai. That's a SUPER cast -- and a damn good movie.

I remember asking myself the same question about Jimmy Lin when I recently re-watched "Flying Daggers" ( a great wire-fu/mo lei tau with much of the same cast) and Wiki'd him as well. It's a shame how the industry can be so fickle sometimes, I thought he was charming and had great comic timing.

What do you mean Maggie was way hot "in 1993"? Haha just kidding, but she is my all-time favorite. I like her from her chubby-faced days in the 80s to her sexed-up look in the 90s (check out Tsui Hark's "Green Snake" ... wow!) to her more mature and refined image these days. A classic.

This movie is one of my guilty pleasure, and I saw it several times ! Did you see the uncut version. I remember I saw it on Laserdisc in the 90's, and there was a hilarious Karaoke scene (I'm calling it the "Bowling song") with Tony Leung Ka-fai and Lin Ching-hsia, but when it was released in DVD in Malaysia first (yes, I was nerd enough to order it from Malaysia), this scene was cut. And I  think on the Hong Kong DVD released a few years later, it's cut too...

I really liked Tony Leung ka Fai's character in the movie, he stole the film for me, getting beaten up by Bridgette Lin was hilarious especially his scene in the grass skirt. I quite liked the comedy. I never realised it was a 1993 movie, oh it makes me feel old :(

i wonder if its the same as child stars, they spend the rest of their life trying to live down their past fame.

i think he had to go into the army, came back a tough guy but the market didn't like him anymore as they wanted him cutsey and stuff, or they just plain forgot about him.
