Shadowguard in Hong Kong theatres now

The Blood (Bond) hits the big screen.

After all the hard work by the cast and crew of our B&E grindhouse effort 'Shadowguard', its great to see it playing in Hong Kong theatres. Of course, this is a platform release prior to its DVD debut, and our little actioner can't compete with all the blockbusters out there. Still, its a big boost for the company, for Ace Studios and for everyone involved for the film to be playing where the 'real' movies play.

Ang Lee said that the art of cinema is the art of regret, and I've never finished and released a film without thinking 'boy, if only I'd done this' or 'if so-and-so had just listened to me...' Its a pointless exercise, but we all do it! I now try to analyse each project as it comes and goes, try to judge the film and my own performance fairly, learn what I can and then move on.

So what did I learn on 'Shadowguard'? One odd lesson was that, for some reason, the more leeway and the more discretionary benefits and credit you give someone, the more they will eventually come to resent you. You can pay someone in full, provide them with every opportunity and give them a credit far greater than they're contracted for... and they'll be unhappy!

By comparison, down in the trenches, all the Ace Studios workers, who put in the hours for a longer time and less reward, were so happy to have the chance to work on a feature, and are delighted to see it play theatrically. People will always surprise you, either in a positive or negative direction, so, as a producer, be prepared for that.

On the plus side, I've been really touched by the support I've had for our first feature, even before its reached its audience yet. Friends and fans (fans are friends!) have written to me via AnD, Facebook and at my email address ( bey.logan@gmail.com) and their kind words are appreciated.

Now Little Gobie has had its run, now 'Shadowguard' and 'Beach Spike!' hits theatres in March. In the next blog, I'll talk about an exciting new B&E project we just wrapped at the studio.

In the meantime, stock up the beer, whiskey, cigareets and weed, throw grandma in the trunk of the station wagon and get down to a theatre near you to see 'Shadowguard'. Mars needs women and we need your money!

Excelsior!
