i want you (shes so heavy)

Last week, I tried out this new Japanese earwax remover kit. It's basically a spray that basically, um, cleared the traffic jam in the tunnel.

Then, I got me the remastered version of Abbey Road.

Then, I fixed the subwoofers to the speakers in my room.

Each event, on its own, was delightful.

But the three merged today. I listened to remastered abbey road on the speakers with clean ears.

Oh my.

Not even the roommate blasting his usual weaksauce 90s slowjam (boyz 2 men? fucking blackstreet? or crap like Mario and Chris Brown?) could ruin the musical bliss today. Nothing, man. It's like I'm just in a good mood. Here comes the sun. And I say it's alright.

(BTW, slowjam is the black sheep/stepchild of the black music family. Think about it... Jazz is improvisation at its best... in any artform, blues is just the best way to get your feelings out there, hip hop is well, cool...and then slowjam? WTF? the weakest genre of the group, no doubt. Not a fan of R and B too except for Lauryn Hill, whose 2000 album is brilliant. She did for R and B what Jenna Jameson did for porn)

You Never Give Me Your Money, I especially love. It starts with this slow melodic tune, so you expecting some ballad, right? But then at the 1:08 mark it goes into double time and then blues-rock kicks in. And Paul McCartney during this period looked just like Rocky when he was training in Russia, with the goatee and the droopy eye and all that.

Now that I think about it, McCartney and Rocky have more in common than facial features. You know how Paul McCartney played in Russia in 2003 and the documentary featured interviews with old Russians talking about how Beatles had a huge influence on them even though they were discouraged from listening to rock by the communists and that the Beatles helped inspire a cultural movement in Russia.

Well, Rocky Balboa finished what the Beatles started. He killed communism in Russia in Rocky IV. Yup.

You guys remember that line from Superbad? Where the fat one (I think his name was Seth?) was saying this girl was out of his league because of her track record of only dating great looking guys, and then proceeds to name several guys and how one had a six pack since 7th grade, and the other was so sweet that when he "looked at his eyes, it was like the first time he heard the Beatles".

The best, and most truthful, line in an otherwise overrated comedy. Judd Apatow is overrated. I Love You, Man and Knocked Up are good. But I think they're good because the story actually had soul and was touching (about male bonding/friendships and the unexpected and random nature of love), not because it was like, drop dead hilarious. Which it aint.

Jay Z and John Mayer with DOA at Madison Square Garden.  I like DOA. It's like a poor man's version of 99 problems with the thud and the beat. Mayer is alright. He aint no Jack Johnson now.
