Social Media Week returns TO HONG KONG in SEPTEMBER 2012

Social Media Week returns TO HOnG KONG in SEPTEMBER 2012 Hong Kong– August 16, 2012 – City Partner Cohn & Wolfe-impactasia today announces the return of Social Media Week Hong Kong (SMWHK). This unique event, hosted through a series of conferences and online platforms, will take place across the city from September 25-27, 2012. SMWHK has solidified its position as the most significant event in the annual digital calendar, showcasing the most prevalent social media topics and dialogue from various industries.  Returning for the second time this year, the Hong Kong event date change is part of a strategic move in order to better observe regional celebrations for the Lunar New Year, and further strengthen hyper-digital participation and reach.  All future SMWHKs will now be held in the month of September.With the emphasis on “Empowering Change through Collaboration,” this global event explores the social, cultural and economic impact of social media whilst encouraging communities to connect on a local level.  September’s SMWHK programme follows this theme, and promises to offer brands, marketers, media and the public an opportunity to collaborate and learn through a number of dynamic events.Hong Kong is 1 of 13 cities simultaneously participating in this global event. Other cities involved include Barcelona, Berlin, Bogotá, Chicago, Glasgow, London, Los Angeles, Sāo Paulo, Seoul, Shanghai, Torino and Vancouver. In February 2012, 36,000 participants attended 1,050 events in 493 locations in 12 cities across 5 continents.  This successfully achieved 275,000 SMW12 mentions, 22,000 check-ins and reached 300 million social media users.“Over the past two years Social Media Week Hong Kong has become an instrumental platform for the local online community,” commented Louise Huckfield, Managing Director, Cohn & Wolfe-impactasia. “Leveraging the city’s dynamic and thriving digital scene across all industries, it continues to grow with the support of homegrown thought leaders and talents, connecting the community through meaningful dialogue and the diversity of social media which has become a universal language.” The Social Media Week Hong Kong programme is now live atwww.socialmediaweek.org/ hongkongand registration officially opens on 28 August, 2012.
