Singapura Dub Club November welcomes Papa U-Gee from Japan

Japanese Reggae artist Papa U-Gee artists makes his debut performance in Singapore at Singapura Dub Club

November 30, Sunday - One of the most respected Reggae artists from Japan, performing Dub, Reggae, Dancehall and Roots will be making his artistic debut at Singapura Dub Club @ Artistry 17 Jalan Pinang.  With over 25 years as key figure in Japan’s music scene, Papa U-Gee has also been instrumental in building up the Japanese Reggae community to becoming one of the most prominent in Asia. He is also credited as one of the first to give Sami T of Mighty Crown his first shot in Jamaica and has been awarded “Town Planning Goodwill Ambassador” from his hometown of Yaizu, Shizuoka Japan.

Papa U-Gee began his career with Roots band “ASB” in 1985 and later joined Yokohama based Reggae / Dancehall Sound System “Banana Size Hi-Fi” in 1988. He travelled overseas to explore the international Reggae scene touching down in New York and Jamaica during the early 90’s. Papa U-Gee moved to the rough area of Cockburn Pen, Kingston Jamaica where notable artists like Super Cat, Josey Wales, U-Roy and Early B originated from. He recorded out of Record Factory, Tuff Gong and King Jammy’s Studio and connected with world famous, Killamanjaro at Dub Store. His years in Cockburn Pen shaped his sound with musical collaborations Reggae greats like Sugar Minott, Leroy “Horsemouth” Wallace and Major Mackerel. Papa U-Gee released an extensive catalogue of records addressing Peace, Love, Unity and Respect with commercial success in Japan with singles Oh Mama, A Walk, Try and his most popular song Yaizu Ko, which became a gateway track into Reggae for many Japanese fans. Papa U-Gee began working with legendary Japanese Roots band Zion High Playaz and set up his own production and label Kiteki Muzik releasing 4 albums independently including his latest release “Connection”. This artist has performed at Reggae festivals all over the world such as “Tribute to the Reggae Legends” (Bob Marley Day, USA), Pai Reggae Festival & Big Mountain (Thailand), Malasimbo Music (Philippines), Taitung Music Festival (Taiwan) as well as MainStage appearances at Mighty Crown’s Yokohama Reggae Sai (Japan) enchanting over 40,000 Japanese Reggae Fans.

Papa U-Gee will be at an artist meet & greet November 29 at Straits Records (24A Bali Lane) performing a short acoustic set with Q&A period. Then join Singapura Dub Club Sunday November 30 for the main event, to welcome for the first time a great Reggae ambassador who’s message is to spread peace and unity across Asia and the globe through the culture of Reggae.

Singapura Dub Club happens every last Sunday of each month, bringing together a community of Dub, Reggae and Bass music lovers to network, eat and dance. The event debuts international artists and DJs, often for their fist time in Singapore. The November Dub Club also features DJs Ken & MC Yooh the Vibration (R22, Japan), as well as Rumshot of Dub Skank’in Hifi. Live performances opening the night include house band The Irietones - fresh off their tour representing Singapore at Asia Music Festival in Sarawak, Malaysia. The Ragga Wacka Dancers, Singapore’s first Dancehall dancer crew will also be  dancing up a storm, styled by Aventa Japan Hair Salon.
