Po Boy Tango, Theatrical Play

Just wrapped up a project not too long ago, this time I was hired to do sound design work for a theatrical play called Po Boy Tango from East West Players in Los Angeles.
It was a lot of fun doing this project since it was all about food!

The performance run starts from Nov. 12 to Dec. 6.

What I've been doing lately

I know I haven't blogged in quite a while but things have been pretty crazy lately.

I'm doing sound design for a musical that's about to start in a week or two so I gotta wrap that one up soon. Deadline is getting closer!
I'll post some more info on it once it starts.

I'm also writing and producing a couple of artist and we'll be heading into the studio to record in about a week or two as well. Its always exciting to go back in and have some fun. I'll post some pics after the sessions.

And I just played a gig at a casino last weekend and doing another one tomorrow.

Busy is good and I'm enjoying it!

Dali, Yunnan

Took a day tour in Dali. The first stop was Xi Zhou's Yen Family, who is the creator of the Pu-er tea that we drink today.

The Bai(White) Tribe lady made some nice tea for us to try. It was very very good.

This is Er Sea. It was raining very hard but the sky was still blue.

Of course, time for some good food!

Kunming/Dali, Yunnan

After a few days in Beijing, its time for my next stop, Yunnan.
I had to leave at around 6 am to catch a plane for Kunming, Yunnan.

I think its the first time for me to actually walk up to a plane instead of walking into one.

The view on the plane was great!

After about 3 hours of flying, I arrived at Kunming Airport, then took a 4.5-bus ride to Dali, then went right to eating. I was starving!

After dinner, it was time to take a walk. The weather was very nice.

Nice view of the moon.

Ok, a whole day of traveling, better call it a day.

Went there for dinner.

Then went to Pilot Studio with good friend Howard.

After going to the studio, we went for some late night snack. BBQ in the streets of Beijing with Howard and engineer Jovi.

Ok, that about concludes my trip in Beijing. I had a lot of fun and I'm sure I'll be back soon.
My next stop is Yunnan. Hope I'll have lots to share over there.

haha he is a really good friend of mine. since like gradeschool.

and no i wasnt able to make it to the gathering. i was in SG at the time. i just came back to LA last week. but my father was there at the AnD gathering, so you may have met him.

well hope there will be another meet up soon, would be cool to chill with AnD peeps in LA.

Prior to attending the Musician’s Institute in Hollywood, Johnny was already an accomplished guitarist, playing in numerous bands in the Los Angeles area. He also played guitar at various concert venues and Las Vegas casino resorts, including The Pasadena Civic Auditorium, Shoreline Amphitheater, Harrah's Casino, Pechanga Casino, Mandalay Bay, Caesar’s Palace, and MGM, for Asian crossover pop artists such as Coco Lee, Chang Hue Mei (A-Mei), S.H.E., Show Luo, Rainie Yang, Sandy Lam, Kenny Bee, Chang Yu, Cass Peng, Alex To, Huang Ping Yuan and Hsiao Gang just to name a few. He also played guitar and arranged for albums released in Taiwan and Hong Kong.

Since 2006, Johnny has been expanding his music career to composing for tv and film. Working with world-renowned film composer Nathan Wang(The Game Plan, She's The Man, Wendy Wu) Johnny's most recent work as a composer and guitarist are featured in several 2007 and 2008 releases such as Labou, Flight Of The Living Dead(European Release), The Final Season(U.S. release date 10/12/07), Japanese Animation The Highlander(DVD), Brotherhood(U.S. t.v. series, 2008), and Valentine(U.S. t.v. series, 2008)

Currently, Johnny remains busy as a freelance composer, session musician, and recording/mixing engineer. After studying with acclaimed mixing engineers such as Grammy Award winner Charles Dye(Jon Bon Jovi, Ricky Martin, Jennifer Lopez, Shakira), Johnny hopes to introduce his unique arrangements and mixing techniques to Chinese pop music.
