Team News: Wimobilize's Francis Chin, drives Cup car!

McElrea Racing Singapore’s 2nd student, comes in the form of Penang born, Francis Chin. A key player in Wimobilize, McElrea Racing’s sponsor for 2010 and the 2011 season, Chin drove the 2008 Porsche GT3 Carrera Cup car at Queensland Raceway for the first time. This was test session 1, of a 5 test programme, aimed at getting Chin fit for his first race season, in the Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge Australia in 2011.Andy McElrea thinks that five days is what it takes, to get Francis ready for a shot at a race season, as early as 2011. “There is a lot you can learn if you know what to learn, and focus on learning it quickly. Francis has been successful in other parts of life, and he is definitely showing that here over the time I’ve spent with him at Queensland raceway. We’ve done Porsche Driving Experience, and a test in a race car, and so far so good!”Newcomer, Chin, was also asked to describe his first Cup Car experience, and second race car experience, after testing Formula Renault a few months prior. “The belts, helmet, HANS; it was all a lot at the start. But gosh, that Cup Car is fast! And the great thing is, that I really enjoy it!”Chin drove 36 laps, in his first day in the Porsche race car, clocking a time of 1:22:26 on Queensland Raceway’s longest configuration. Yuey Tan, was also testing and ran 74 laps, with a best time of 1:15:23. The number 5 car was working on tyre strategies and setup on the car.
