Dueling with Knight was Good fun

Race 1 of the Shannon Nationals race weekend, was nothing short of spectacular for McElrea driver, Yuey Tan, and Gold Coast’s Porsche dealer tycoon, Terry Knight. 

“We were all over the shop at a very fast race pace,” said Tan. “It was such a close affair and he did get by me with one mistake at Siberia, though I was on him and thought I could have got past him, in the closing laps. Guess it wasn’t meant to be! Our pace was just over a second off front man Kingsley, so the pace while we were going at each other was really rewarding! We stayed up with the front for quite a lot of the race.”

Singaporean Driver Yuey Tan, got off to the quickest start of his career while Terry Knight was lurking behind him. During the first half of the race, Terry stayed planted and waiting for a mistake. There was not enough of a speed differential for Tan and Knight to overtake one another. Though Knight got the better of Tan, and slipped through. Tan stormed back strong, trying every trick in the book to upset Knight, furiously flashing his lights, and ducking up the inside of Knight, just to unsettle the Kiwi driver.  It was a very entertaining race going on.

After crossing the finish line, Knight came from his car and said down the pitlane, “I want to see that on your in car recorder, Yuey!”

Yuey Tan had this to say after the race. “It was a great fight, and I didn’t come up on top. But it was safe, fun, and amazingly, we didn’t make any contact throughout the race! I tried absolutely everything to get past him but he stayed tough. I was on better rubber, my car was quicker, so congratulations goes to Terry. Even before we reached the scales, he was already smiling from ear to ear. Well done mate!”

Series director, Jodi Zylstra, said after the race, “Did you see those flashing lights from Yuey’s car? We know who has been teaching him in McElrea Racing!” (referring to the flashing headlights on pit straight)
