Music Publishing (Karaoke)

No Doubt, Karaoke is probably one of the MOST evolutionary thing in past 10-20 years the Japanese invented, WELL DONE!

well, how did this effect HK music scene?

Song writers and singers tend to have more songs in a genre where it is easier to sing, easily remembered and strong gimmick in lyrics, all for 1 reason, for the ppl in karaoke to sing their songs, the more ppl singing it = more popular..... (personally, i don't this is the case anymore). songs are no longer custom made for THAT particular singer, but for the mass, that's why many songs sound alike... I thought songs a suppose to reflect the singer's characteristic and personality (sometimes)....

Youngster in HK tend to generalize K-songs (Karaoke songs) to popish ballads, that i don't agree, a dance or a rap or rock song can easily be a K-song too, u never know what the next K-song genre will sound like. Some facts: for the K-Fans, if u've been going to Red Box or Neway, you might realize that there are only a certain number of songs you can choose now, unlike before, less and less new songs are available, reason behind that is, all record labels and publishers go through a middle man to distribute their Karaoke.

There are 2 companies, K net and Music Link. Red box and Neway contracted Music Link, and all the bars and pubs with Karaoke system are with K-net.

Music Link members include - Gold Label, East Asia, Star Entertainment etc.

K-Net members include - Warner Music, Universal Music, Sony BMG etc.

therefore, u won't see Music Links songs in bars and pubs, and u won't see K-net songs in red box and Neway.

  • No offense to "K-songs", i think no musicians in the world can come up with the same tone as HK/Taiwan Musicians, it's a style/culture we own.

  • - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - --  - - - - - - - - something totally out of the picture:
