    Dinner, Movie and A Show

Three great things you can do this weekend in Los Angeles. Unfortunately, I can't, but definitely not out of lack of desire -- just lack of time. But if you have time and desire, you should definitely check these out.

    FIRST COURSE:

My man Ron Oda's film Asian Stories is opening theatrically at the ImaginAsian Center. It's a charming little character comedy that stars James Kyson Lee (Heroes). It won the Audience Award at VC Asian Film Festival last year. Don't let it slip by; it's only around for a week.

    Where:
    ImaginAsian Center
    Downtown LA
    251 South Main St
    Los Angeles, CA 90012

    SECUNDI:

After an early movie, you can head over to Project By Project's annual tasting benefit. This is an amazing event. I have been fortunate enough to have served as a guest "celebrity" sous chef at a couple of these events in the past and I can attest that it is definitely a steal for any foodie. Lots of good food and drink and cool folks. And on top of that, it's for a good cause! This year, Project by Project’s partner is the Center for Asian Americans United for Self Empowerment (CAUSE), a non-profit, non-partisan, community-based organization whose mission is to advance the political empowerment of the Asian Pacific American community.

    When:
        Saturday, July 26, 2008
        6:00-7:00 PM VIP reception
        7:00-10:30 PM

    Where:
Wallis Annenberg Building at the California Science Center
        700 State Drive
        Los Angeles, CA 90037

    AND FOR DESSERT:

After you're done stuffing your face, you can head over to Tangiers to dance off those extra calories. My man Woody Pak just joined a new band called "The Cool Table." If you are stuck in the 80's like me, you will definitely dig this. Self described as "We're a bunch of late 30 somethings keeping young and pretending to be rock stars.  We're all about mashing up stuff LIVE! We'll be doing our usual wild mashing up of familiar songs... because the only thing better than Michael Jackson is Michael Jackson mixed with Nirvana and Boston."

    When:
    9 PM Saturday, July 26

    Where:
    Tangier
    2138 Hillhurst Avenue
    Los Feliz, 90027
