China - Week 51 (8/20-23): Jisue in Shanghai

It’s been a fun 4 - 5 days having Jisue in town. We spent some of the time hanging out at my new place, some of the time doing touristy stuff, and some of the time just doing regular “when you’re in china” stuff. Instead of going through them bit by bit, I’ll make this more of a photo blog.

This is most of what I moved. Not all that much. I ended up packing maybe another 50% worth of stuff and it barely filled half of the moving truck so I wasn’t hurting for space or anything.

Jisue was pretty tired after the move and from being busy at work back in Seoul, so she conked out for a while on my couch.

On our first day of doing touristy stuff we checked out this building where a temporary Korean government was formed back during the Japanese occupation in 1919. Lots and lots of Korean tourists there and it’s just a block from Xin Tian Di. You’d never know it was there if you didn’t know it was there.

After checking out the Korean Temporary Government place, Jisue and I got some Pearl Milk Tea around the corner. It was really good at this place (albeit, a bit pricey) and it was nice to escape from the heat for a bit.

This desert was quite delicious. Mango flavored topping over a cheesecake center. Yum!

Jisue looooooves pearl milk tea. Here is my Taro Pearl drink with Jisue looking on.

350 meters up is pretty darn high. As you can see from the sign, we’re at the top of the Oriental Pearl Tower (dong fang ming zu) in Pu Dong.

After walking around the tower we grabbed some dinner in the revolving restaurant. This is the third time I’ve eaten there. The first was with my dad, the second was with Cass and Ben, and here you can see Jisue enjoying the view.

We dropped by the South Shanghai Xue Yuan a couple times and Jisue had a lot to talk about with Zhu Wen Jun who happens to love Korean dramas. Here Jisue is showing Zhu Wen Jun, Liu Ji and the daughter of Wang Ping (I think that’s her mom’s name … famous wushu person) a video of the Korean pop sensation “Rain”, doing a music video.

And of course, no trip to Shanghai would be complete without a trip on the Bund. But even better we took a Grey Line tour and got a boat ride on the Pu River as well! Here is a view from the boat towards Pu Dong.

And here is another pictures of Jisue on the boat.

Here we are at the Peace Hotel on Nan Jing Lu. Jisue is having a conversation with our tour guide, Elsie.

And that’s all she wrote. It was lots of fun hanging out with her for 4.5 days! But now my home is empty again and it’s just me filling up the space between my walls. Time to get cracking on my Chinese studies!
