The Mediacorp Enticement

I have just finished my first day of filming an episode of Incredible Tales. Two more days to go. It might be nothing great, but it’s a first step for me in many ways. A step from short films into TV. A further baby step in my dreams.

Suffering from an inferiority complex. I feel I’m lacking in the looks department, not as pretty as the “successful” actresses. Not as outgoing and talkative as the “popular” actresses. Not as savvy as the “crew-friendly” people. So how do I try to improve? My makeup skills have improved with time, but I still feel naked and bare without makeup on. I try to talk & joke more. I try to make more friends, especially within the industry.

Singapore’s industry is so small. It’s really all about the connections.

Earlier this year, I went for a general casting session with Mediacorp’s Ann. Negative reply. Sometimes, I wonder what it is I lack. I’m not desperate for a place in Mediacorp, but the fact remains, it is THE TV Station of Singapore, and if I want to get regular TV roles, I need to imprint my image upon the Casting Department first. But how?

I have so much to improve upon. But all I want is a chance to prove myself.

After these 3 days of filming, I have 4 short films, 2 stage plays & 1 upcoming workshop to role-play in. But I’m not as busy as I’d like to be. So, I’m contemplating trying to push myself into modelling, to earn some side income & gain some exposure. Maybe I’ll make it as a model, maybe I won’t. Either way, it’s worth a try.

I want the feature film lead role. I want more TV roles. I want more opportunities. Move beyond short films into TV & film roles! Big TV & film roles! Acting is my passion, my dream. I don’t mind sweltering in the heat & getting eaten alive in mosquitoes, as long as I get to act.

I’m happy that I’ve largely moved beyond non-paying roles into paying jobs. But I’m praying & fasting now that I’ll be able to get into Mediacorp (significant) roles regularly, and get my feature film roles!

Note: This blog entry is largely to encourage myself & motivate myself again. I need to believe that I can get bigger, larger roles in Mediacorp & films. I pray tomorrow’s filming will go better than today’s. I pray that Mediacorp will call me with another opportunity. I pray for the favour of men.

I love You, God. :)
